We had the good fortune of connecting with Ashland Jamison and we’ve shared our conversation below.

Hi Ashland, what was your thought process behind starting your own business?
My though process behind my business ventures are how can I make the lives of my peers better as well as highlight and enhance the culture at the same time.

What should our readers know about your business?
Paramount Creators is a clothing store that highlights up and coming clothing brands in some of your favorite communities. Our goal is to capture the aesthetic of each major city across america through fashion. I believe every city’s style and fashion is very unique because of the culture in that area. I want people to be able to shop city to city with out the hassle of flying or driving miles and miles away.

One of the things I am most excited for is providing a platform that will hopefully one day inspire people to become big fashion designers.

I decided to start Paramount Creators because one day I went to the mall super early and I was walking around looking at the stores and I noticed there were not any stores in the mall that represented African-Americans. As African Americans we buy what we can get or what’s available but the clothing and stores are not catered to us, so I wanted to create a store that represented us that’s why all the brands in my store are black owned. I got started by drafting a business plan, followed by reaching out to local designers to see if they were interested in being a part of what I was trying to do. So far the road has been pretty smooth besides the fact that COVID-19 has forced me to postpone my first major event. It was going to be a pop-up shop featuring 5 black owned clothing brands to come out and showcase their clothing. As we are learning to live with Covid-19, We have hosted two events and have been able to gross over 15,000 including website sales.

The Shoutout series is all about recognizing that our success and where we are in life is at least somewhat thanks to the efforts, support, mentorship, love and encouragement of others. So is there someone that you want to dedicate your shoutout to?
I usually shout out everybody but this time I would like to give myself a shout out. I want to give a shout out to me for never giving up, always staying persistent even when things do not look good. I want to give myself a shout out for coming from nothing and finding a way to surround myself around people that can elevate my life. I can go on and on because I have made it to heights I never thought I could reach and I want to take this time to give a shout out to myself, Ashland Jamison.
