We had the good fortune of connecting with Ashley Pennywell and we’ve shared our conversation below.

Hi Ashley, can you share the most important lesson you’ve learned over the course of your career?
First and foremost is to never give up. Usually the narrative for starting a business is that you’ll start seeing progress instantly and that is not always the case. Some of us are fortunate to have those changes immediately while others have to work their way to the top. I have learned to stay consistent and keep going, nothing successful happens overnight. It takes time and patience for a business to become perfect and established. Consistency is key and I am always promoting no matter what, who, or where.

Can you give our readers an introduction to your business? Maybe you can share a bit about what you do and what sets you apart from others?
I started off with just creativity, I never imagine having my own Event Planning Business until I realized I can do something with my potential. Launching my business and trying to promote was, still is, the hardest challenge for me. There is so much competition in the event industry and it can get discouraging at times. Once I remember that everyone has their own style and there will always be multiple choices of the same career, I become motivated with my goals again. I hope to take AP Eventz to its highest potential including full decor and a Venue. I would like everyone to not look at AP Eventz as another Event Planning Company but another life changing memorable figure that can change lives.

Let’s say your best friend was visiting the area and you wanted to show them the best time ever. Where would you take them? Give us a little itinerary – say it was a week long trip, where would you eat, drink, visit, hang out, etc.
I would first and foremost take them to my happy place which is Sky Lawn Rooftop. This has great city views and a peaceful environment. You can eat, play games and take pictures. Houston is known for several food places so I would try to squeeze a new restaurant in everyday. Some of my favorites include : Taste Bar Kitchen, Daiq’s , Supreme Gumbo, Soul Goode Food Truck, Prey Houston to name a few. There’s several more on my favorites list.
I have been to several poetry shows that have yet to be disappointing, several bars to choose from and I would definitely show off the lovely parks downtown including Buffalo Bayou, Eleanor Tinsley etc.

Who else deserves some credit and recognition?
I would definitely like to dedicate a shout out to my one and only sister Amber. She has helped me so much in several ways throughout my business journey. Whether its keeping me focused, helping me with ideas, or even participating with assisting in events. She is the backbone to AP Eventz, she does my Logo and website. Her title is CCO – Chief Creative Officer and that is highly recommended with my type of work.

Definitely always want to thank those who always share my work or even taking the time to give a quick like. I appreciate all those who have mentioned my name for referrals. Huge shout out to all the strangers who support me as well!
