We had the good fortune of connecting with Ashley Plummer and we’ve shared our conversation below.

Hi Ashley, how do you define success?
Success is finding happiness, whatever or wherever that may be. It’s trying your absolute best, even when you fail. Success is when you are true to yourself, regardless of the judgement thrown your way. It’s being the best parent you can be for your children..it’s being there for a friend in their time of need. When I was younger, I thought being successful meant having a lot of money. When you are able to afford your dream house, fancy cars, exotic vacations, you made it! I feel like that’s what we’ve been programmed to believe..that success is wealth. For me, it’s the little things that make a person successful. Waking up in the morning ready to take on the day..looking forward to your work instead of dreading it..finding the strength to rise up and push on through the darkness of this world..holding on to your faith..THAT is success.

Please tell us more about your work. We’d love to hear what sets you apart from others, what you are most proud of or excited about. How did you get to where you are today professionally. Was it easy? If not, how did you overcome the challenges? What are the lessons you’ve learned along the way. What do you want the world to know about you or your brand and story?
I am a licensed esthetician, and owner of Sublime Skin by Ashley in Friendswood. I was fully aware of the challenges I would face running my own business, but knew it would all be worth it in the long run. It’s definetly a lot of work, especially the advertising and social media side of it, but it gets easier over time. In the beginning I was overwhelmed, and I still feel that way at times. You have to have patience and dedication, and continuously remind yourself of why you started your business in the first place, future goals, etc. Before I even went in to the esthetics program, I knew I wanted to start my own business. I always loved the idea of being my own boss. Being in control of the services I offer, the timing of each service, the amount of attention I am able to give to my clients is all very important to me. I want to give my clients the best quality services that I can, and give them the time and attention they deserve. Everyone deserves a little “me time” and I love that I can give that to people! I’ve learned a lot about myself during all of this. I’ve come to realize that I can do just about anything when I really set my mind to it. Yes, there are tough times and there is stress, but the goodness outweighs all of that. Helping my clients gain their confidence back, and seeing them walk out with a smile..that is what it’s all about! I want everyone to realize that they are capable of anything. You have it in you, so just go for it and never give up.

If you had a friend visiting you, what are some of the local spots you’d want to take them around to?
I would have to take my bestie to La Brisa in League City. I LOVE mexican food! Everything on their menu is awesome..their drinks are great too! Another place we would go for drinks is Beers Looking At You in Webster. Not only do they have a wonderful craft beer selection, but it’s a nice place to just hang out, listen to music, and relax. I love movies, so we would check out Star Cinema Grill in Webster. You get to enjoy your movie in super comfy seats, the theater is beautiful, and they have really good food..I’m a foodie, so that’s a big bonus for me! Now, I am NOT good at golf, but Top Golf in Webster is a lot of fun..great atmosphere, good food and drinks, a nice variety of games..definetly worth the money!

Who else deserves some credit and recognition?
I dedicate my shoutout to my son, Charlie. If it weren’t for you, my sweet boy, I honestly don’t want to know where I would be now. You gave me strength and happiness when I thought it no longer existed. Your kindness, your silliness, your smile..it keeps this mama going! Thank you for giving my life meaning. Everything I have accomplished, and everything I am working toward..it’s all for you, and I would not have it any other way. I want to shoutout to my parents. You’ve always been there for me, and not just during the good times. You have been there at my absolute worst, and always helped me pick up the pieces. It is your love and dedication that made me the woman that I am today. Most importantly, thank you for being such wonderful grandparents. We are truly blessed to have you in our lives. Last but not least..I want to shoutout to my cousin Yasmin. When I finally decided to go back to school, you pushed me when I needed it the most. Every time I got discouraged or stressed, and thought I wasn’t capable, you told me to take a deep breath and keep moving forward. When I needed a shoulder to cry on, you were there. When I needed additional training, you were there. Even after graduating, you continue to encourage me throughout this journey of mine, and I want you to know how grateful I am. I love ya’ll so much.
