We had the good fortune of connecting with ashley thompson and we’ve shared our conversation below.

Hi ashley, why did you pursue a creative career?
All throughout my life, I’ve always been so attached to art in some form. Whether that be music, painting, or visual art… it has been an extreme factor in my everyday life. As I grew up and reached high school, I found that I had a love for photography. More than just snapping photos of concerts on my iPhone every weekend. After I received my first camera for Christmas, I truly cannot express how easily it just clicked. I found myself looking at things as they would be a photograph and always wanting to stay near my camera. From there, I fully believed in my future with photography and tried to learn more about it every single day.

Let’s talk shop? Tell us more about your career, what can you share with our community?
Wow what big questions. As of a couple months ago, I have been working on lots of commercial work with brands like Steve Madden, Instagram, and my very first magazine cover photo for Our Era Magazine! It’s so so so surreal to me that I have reached this point in my career as a freshman in college, and I am so very grateful for all of those who have made those opportunities possible. Getting to this point has definitely been a route full of hard work and I still have so so so much to learn, but wow has it been crazy. Although this entire journey has been nothing but wonderful, I have most definitely had to face being taken seriously as a woman in the creative industry. In many environments my work brings me to, I stick out like a sore thumb and many find it hard to believe that the photos I’ve taken are really my work. Throughout this, I have been able to take that shock factor and turn it into something positive that urges me to learn more. So stoked to see what is next.

Let’s say your best friend was visiting the area and you wanted to show them the best time ever. Where would you take them? Give us a little itinerary – say it was a week long trip, where would you eat, drink, visit, hang out, etc.
Ooo I like this question. This would definitely take place at home which is Houston. I’d for sure grab some Pho for lunch at this awesome spot called Pho I-10 near my house, go to the lake in my neighborhood with friends, do some thrifting in Montrose and Family Thrift, then just hangout Downtown. Houston is the coolest.

Who else deserves some credit and recognition?
I have zero idea where I’d be in my life without the love and support of my family and friends. My parents have supported me every step of the way of fully stepping into an artistic path with confidence. My friends are constantly inspiring me in every sort of way and I am so thankful to have motivation like that. To all of the brands and artists that have seen something in my work so much to work with me, thank you and thank you again. I am greatly looking toward what is to come next!
