We had the good fortune of connecting with Assata Murray and we’ve shared our conversation below.

Hi Assata, every day, we about how much execution matters, but we think ideas matter as well. How did you come up with the idea for your business?
I love this question! About three years ago now I had this dream one about my business Women on a Mission. At that time it was called Woman of Purpose, its a podcast that has since turned into A store online. God has been giving me piece by piece of what we are to do. The main objective is to teach Women how to live in their purpose through Christ.

Alright, so let’s move onto what keeps you busy professionally?
I have always been a creative since I was a little girl so it has not always been easy. My mind is always running on 1000 with new ideas, im not only a Podcaster, I am also a singer/songwriter I rap now too. And I am an author so the road has had its ups and downs. I survived the challenges by pushing through the times where I feel alone and stuck, I pray and seek guidance. The help of my team is also what keeps me on track. A lot of the time when you are a creative it can get easy to flow off track so having a team is so important.

If you had a friend visiting you, what are some of the local spots you’d want to take them around to?
Well for one I’m a stickler for coffee so we would for sure go to a coffee shop. For the fun we would need to leave my area and take a road trip down to Atlantic City, I love the board walk and all the food places. New York is close to us so we can hop on a bus and have fun in the city. I love eating and one of my favorite places is Chillis.

The Shoutout series is all about recognizing that our success and where we are in life is at least somewhat thanks to the efforts, support, mentorship, love and encouragement of others. So is there someone that you want to dedicate your shoutout to?
I wouldn’t even have my podcast/business with the Lord so the first person I want to shout out is Jesus. I would like to shoutout and thank my husband for being so supportive and believing in me. My business partner Bianca Murray for helping me come up with ideas. I would like to thank my church family and, my supporters because without them I wouldn’t make it.
