We had the good fortune of connecting with Asya Broussard and we’ve shared our conversation below.

Hi Asya, can you tell us more about your background and the role it’s played in shaping who you are today?
I’m from Houston, TX, born and raised. Being the oldest of three and spending a lot of time helping my family in any way I could I think really did help me a lot. It made me a better person having that responsibility in my opinion. It opened this nurturing spirit in me. That never ended for me, it made me just want to go for it even more. To be able to give love to as many children as I can restore their confidence and help them become better and more amazing people in this world is more than enough for me.

Alright, so for those in our community who might not be familiar with your business, can you tell us more?
I am a nanny and a doula in Houston, TX. I also own a staffing agency in the city to help more up-and-coming nanny’s in the city. What sets me apart has to be the time that I take to help and train the people who work for me. It’s more than just going into an interview, seeing a candidate I like, and then hiring them for a job. It’s rooting for the young people who just want some financial freedom and responsibility as well as the nanny who’s been a nanny her whole life and the single mother just trying to work hard for her and her own babies. I’m most proud of my work as a doula, it’s the newest part of my business but it truly is life-changing amazing work. To be there with someone as they. bring in new life is truly amazing. It was hard for me to go from reporting to the boss to being the boss. I was definitely scared to do it on my own but branching out was the test decision I’ve ever made. I love it for me honestly. I had to learn to be patient with myself, when I’m feeling overwhelmed it’s okay to take breaks and try again. There’s no shame in that. It’s worse to not go and take those breaks. I want the world to know that I have simple goals that I want to reach. I want to reach as many people, families, households, etc, as possible. I want to give children a safe place to come and learn and be themselves. I want them to feel loved and gain confidence and see goals that are bigger and brighter than they could ever imagine. I want these kids to think big and want the world because anything is possible, you really never know what could happen and what is coming next.

Let’s say your best friend was visiting the area and you wanted to show them the best time ever. Where would you take them? Give us a little itinerary – say it was a week long trip, where would you eat, drink, visit, hang out, etc.
Okay so we would wake up in the morning and go to The Breakfast Klub for catfish and grits because I love to eat, but while we’re in that area let’s go to the museums or just take a walk to the park and the Botanical gardens. We’d go to lunch at Lucilles for fried green tomatoes (monster style) because they are so good. I’m a nap queen so I’d need one in between and then we’d go to dinner at Joey Uptown and have a few drinks there to end off the night I want to go to A’dor and enjoy hookah and vibes on a Wednesday. It’ll be amazing. Truly the best of both worlds.

The Shoutout series is all about recognizing that our success and where we are in life is at least somewhat thanks to the efforts, support, mentorship, love and encouragement of others. So is there someone that you want to dedicate your shoutout to?
My shoutout has to go to my mother and my sisters, they are my support system and my team. They are the very best parts of me. At my lowest times, they were there, and also at my best. I am who I am so that I can make them proud. If they’re proud, I’m happy. Also to the love of my life, my late grandmother, Mary Helen Broussard. I wouldn’t even be the person I am today without her and I love her more than anything and thank her for everything. I hope she’s proud of me. I’ll always be Mary’s girl.
