Meet Audrey Mitchell | Creator of VG Hair Care

We had the good fortune of connecting with Audrey Mitchell and we’ve shared our conversation below.

Hi Audrey, we’d love to hear more about how you thought about starting your own business?
I decided to create VG Hair Care because my daughter lost the majority of her hair due to a bacterial infection. That’s when I decided to cut her hair to be able to reach the infectious part of her scalp. It broke my heart to see the tears run down her face. In that moment I saw my daughter’s confidence take a dynamic blow. I knew I was going to cut my hair to show her that no matter how your hair looks you can still walk in your own confident, crown power. My cousin and I formulated our Goddess Growth Oil which grew my daughter’s hair in a month. I wanted that to be the mission behind VG Hair Care not only do we heal your crown, we help to heal the person who wears that crown as well. We help our customers believe that their beauty starts on the inside and shines outward.Alright, so for those in our community who might not be familiar with your business, can you tell us more?
VG is a natural ingredient based company that is infused with natural healing properties. Instead of boiling our herbs into our oil we allow it to soak while in the sun light. We provide daily affirmations to our customer to speak healing over their crowns. We combine herbs, oils, and most importantly manifestation. That comes together to heal the crown, bring confidence and self care into the customer’s daily routine. Before you know it your hair will be healthy, long, thick and you’ll be filled with self love. We stand apart from others because the hair is not the main objective. Healing your crown and you is our mission. This journey has not been easy because you can not be timid, you have to be strong, persistence, and discipline when running a business. This not like having a 9-5. There is no one there to manage you about clocking in or out or give you task to complete for the day. You are the boss so its up to you to stay on top of your company or it will fall as you become relax. Realizing I had no option but to win is what has brought me this far. I could not be complacent if I wanted to, I have to put in the work to drive my company in front of whoever willing to believe in my products. I decided to stop thinking about what I need to do and just do it! That comes from me experiencing depression and having high anxiety. I found that I kept replaying what I needed to do in my head to the point I was not getting it done and started to weigh on me mentally. So, I challenged my thought process and decided I was putting my thoughts into action no matter how I was currently feeling. Some lessons I have learned along the way is that freedom is obtained through discipline and having clear and direct intention on what you actually want and need from yourself and the life you designing. Do not waver in the sight of fear! Trust yourself and believe in what you have spoken over your life cause I AM is listening. I want the world to know that VG Hair Care is not just a brand but a movement in self development, self care, self confidence, and self love. Starting with healing the crown where the hair grows to provide you with the strength to keep going. It’s not a day yet that has defeated you! VG Hair Care is a reminder to all that you are a conquer. Heal your crown while healing yourself!If you had a friend visiting you, what are some of the local spots you’d want to take them around to?
For breakfast we would go to the Breakfast Club to enjoy their stacked plates and juices fish with grits. Lunch I have to bring them to my favorite taco truck which I named the orange truck for its authentic corn tacos and green sauce my gawd I can tasted them now. Then I would bring them to Texas City Dikes to enjoy a drive on beach scene for some peace and quiet before we enter into the night. Night time we are not at just one place we will be painting the city red from the north to the south I can not give you specifics cause I always end up where I suppose to be.The Shoutout series is all about recognizing that our success and where we are in life is at least somewhat thanks to the efforts, support, mentorship, love and encouragement of others. So is there someone that you want to dedicate your shoutout to?
I would not be where I am without the support of Henry, Noelle, and Ahmad Griffin, my beautiful children that cheer me on everyday. They tell me how they write about VG and I in their papers at school. They are so thrilled and happy to help me succeed in life. Making them proud is what keeps me motivated. I know I am on the right track when they speak to me about the difference of working a 9-5 and owning a business. I learn so many lessons from them and they will never understand how much they encourage me. Having kids has blessed me to have no option but to be successful in whatever I set out to do. So big ups to my babies Henry, Noelle, and Ahmad Griffin!
