Meet Austin Potts: Compostable Waste Collector – Health Coach

We had the good fortune of connecting with Austin Potts and we’ve shared our conversation below.

Hi Austin, what was your thought process behind starting your own business?
My composting business came into existence as a result of my love for nature and learning about natural processes. I began gardening and keeping plants, and learning about soil and the ecosystems that we live and thrive in. After a few years of gardening in the same spot, the soil there became barren, dry dirt devoid of much life, and the crops of that year showed it! They were smaller, grew slower, and didn’t produce as much. They also looked a bit more droopy than usual. Through experiencing this process first hand, I was able to witness how important compost is. Compost is organic matter that has broken down fully and is ready to be reused by other plants and insects. I learned not only of the importance of returning organic matter to our soils, but how our current system – all organic waste sent to landfills – is actually harming our atmosphere by producing 15% of methane across the globe, and preventing the food scraps from breaking down properly.. I saw a simple way to nourish our soils, and at the same time make an impact on our carbon footprint.. Composting!! My service collects compostable waste from homes and commercial food establishments, processes the matter into ‘Black Gold’, and then return it to our Earth through local gardens, farmers and of course Our Compost Community members!

What should our readers know about your business?
To me, my business and vision will continously evolve along with me and my interests. KarmaPharma in its current form was built completely by myself. I’ve created the website, the social media, my flyers that I put out, I did have some help with creating my logo and stickers, I’d like to shoutout Mr. Dwayne Casey with the Madrat Beverage Co. for helping me with my design! Everything else is all me, which is one thing I love about it. I love creating my own schedule, and the feeling that my success is solely up to how much I am willing to put in. I love being able to engage my creativity and imagination for my business – and I’ve got big ideas and visions for the future of KarmaPharma, such as venturing into the realms of health and wellness coaching, cultivating plants for food and medicine, and even hosting wilderness camping trips for all levels of experience! Like I said, my imagination has lots of fun with this! I can tell you that the KarmaPharma brand will be ever evolving, and it will always stand for spreading truth, health, connecting with nature and promoting the best for humanity on our beautiful planet.

If you had a friend visiting you, what are some of the local spots you’d want to take them around to?
I am an outdoorsman, so my typical outings around the city are checking out different trails and parks to take my dog hiking in, or some reservoir or creek to drop the kayak in. Houston has pockets of small parks and hiking trails all around. One very well known and lo Ed trail and nature reserve is the Houston Arboretum, one of my favorite places to hike. After a nice nature walk around the arboretum I would take them to eat somewhere in the heights probably maybe Tarka for some Indian Food, Velvet Taco or one of the many delicious Mexican food restaurants that are available on nearly every corner! The Shoutout series is all about recognizing that our success and where we are in life is at least somewhat thanks to the efforts, support, mentorship, love and encouragement of others. So is there someone that you want to dedicate your shoutout to?
This is such an easy answer for me. I am going to shout out Sacred Stays and it’s creator, Alicia Howery. Sacred Stays is so many things – but essentially it is an incredibly powerful system for understanding, optimizing and unlocking the full potential of our Human experience. I am so grateful to have been gifted with the ability to be very involved with Sacred Stays and Alicia, and have become an affiliated Coach of her amazing system! My continuous involvement with Sacred Stays and the community that surrounds it has transformed my life completely. Through these systems I’ve been able to move through emotional blockages that I had held onto for years, and completely let go of them, enabling me to fully move forward in the utmost fulfillment and satisfaction of my life. I have remembered how to properly deal with my emotions, and move from a life of codependent actions into a life of coempowerment.
