We had the good fortune of connecting with Aydee Deaton and we’ve shared our conversation below.
Hi Aydee, what do you attribute your success to?
The most important factor behind the success of Sugarberry Cookie Shoppe is most definitely the genuine relationships made in our community. Partnering and cheering on other local businesses and the stories behind each cookie order is the heart of our business.
We love to collaborate with other small businesses for pop-ups, cookie decorating classes, and events. Sharing and loving on our community is key to our mission! “Shop small” isn’t a catch phrase around here! The same goes for our clients! I love connecting and getting to know each of my clients to create the most perfect set for their special occasion.
Let’s talk shop? Tell us more about your career, what can you share with our community?
Cookie decorating started out as a fun creative outlet for me to give sweet gifts. Gifting a cookie is like gifting someone a big sweet hug! The idea of sharing that gift giving feeling and spreading joy with cookies was the biggest inspiration for me.
I love sharing the tools and decorative process at my cookie decorating classes with others! There’s nothing like sharing my cookie knowledge and expertise with others!
I’m most proud of the opportunities to give back to our community. Being able to give back to our local schools, special needs community, and other causes close to my heart is the best part of being a successful business owner. My son has cerebral palsy so any opportunity to give back to organizations serving the special needs community fills my heart with joy!
This year is the 3rd annual Disability Awareness Event we are hosting with our friends Dash Blossoms and Humble Grounds Coffeehouse. It’s an incredible morning of community, celebrating differences, resources for families, and raising money for local organizations. Previously we have raised money for Reigning Strength and Hope for Three. This year we are raising money for The Brookwood Community.
Any places to eat or things to do that you can share with our readers? If they have a friend visiting town, what are some spots they could take them to?
Food is most definitely my love language! I’d take any guests to my favorite food hotspots Humble Grounds Coffee for the best Americano, breakfast tacos, Buffalo chicken sandwich, and my namesake the Sugarberry Cold Brew! Local Table for their killer brussels sprouts and goat cheese appetizer! Order the entire menu at Anthonie’ s Market Grill because literally everything there is the bomb diggity, Doziers BBQ because you can’t come to Texas and not have amazing barbeque! The BEST red curry at Ginger Thai, chicken salad sandwiches and german chocolate cake slice as big as your head at Sandy Mcgees, and quinoa salad and pesto turkey sandwich on raisin bread (trust it!) at The Trough Juice Bar
Lastly we’d finish our food tour by washing down some delicious brews at Project Halo Brewing the coolest woman owned spot!
We’d probably need new pants after all that food and we’d head over to historic Richmond to my favorite Vintage Hope Boutique. Hands down my favorite place to shop! The best friend duo who own this shop are not only hilarious and welcoming, but they have created the most beautiful space for body inclusivity, self love, and owing your fabulousness!
The Shoutout series is all about recognizing that our success and where we are in life is at least somewhat thanks to the efforts, support, mentorship, love and encouragement of others. So is there someone that you want to dedicate your shoutout to?
Sugarberry Cookie Shoppe is not a one woman show! There is so much that goes into the success of our business. Sugarberry would not exist without the tremendous support and love of my family, cookie bestie, ride or die clients, and the many small business friends I’ve made along the way!
My husband and mom have been the backbone of our business. From the beginning, they have helped with baking, packaging cookies, delivering orders, and the tons of dishes that come with being a cookie business. Technology is most definitely not my strong suit! My brother in law took on creating our website and streamlined the ordering process for our clients.
So many small business owners have become our biggest cheerleaders and friends! We have partnered and become great friends with our favorite coffee shop Humble Grounds Coffeehouse along with many other small businesses.
The biggest support has come from a local cookie business that has come on board with Sugarberry! Keren leads so many crucial departments! She runs so much of the back end of the business, customer relations, social media, and so much more! Her organizational skills and creative mind have been essential to our growth and success!
I am so grateful for all the love and support!
