We had the good fortune of connecting with Baraka McCann and we’ve shared our conversation below.

Hi Baraka, what role does tech play in your business?
Hi! Technology plays a HUGE role in my business! The fact that I started my business on a iPad, says a lot! I didn’t have a computer at the time, so to start a business right on my tablet and phone is amazing. I also have a camera that has WiFi to send pictures to your phone! That helped me a lot at the beginning. I feel like in my Industry or niche, technology is a huge part, from pattern making to even putting technology in clothing, even technology in fashion shows! I think we are very ahead!

Can you open up a bit about your work and career? We’re big fans and we’d love for our community to learn more about your work.
I am a plus size blogger, and influencer. Think of me as your plus size look book! What sets me apart is that I’m very well rounded in the fashion industry. From book smart to the creativity side, versatile with my style, a lot of confidence, and how daring I am. So far in my career, I am so proud of how far I have came within the 3 years as a blogger. I’ve worked with at least 30 companies, from local businesses to Zales to even Savagexfenty! I took my business professionally in my own hands as soon as I launched my website, even networking. Nothing is easy, but I stayed consistent. I used to post 6 times on Instagram and would write 2 blog posts a week on my blog for months, So it was hard but I was determined!! Some lessons I have learned is be consistent, just go for it, and never be scared to be your authentic self! What I want the world to know about my story is, never think it’s not possible to do what YOU are passionate about and want to do! What ever you want to do, be the best at it. Im a fashion blogger, and I’m going to be the best fashion blogger I can be!

Any great local spots you’d like to shoutout?
I love cute areas to go, eat, and vibe at the same time! I love places like Tinys No. 5, café Poêtes, or The Kitchen at The Dunlavy . Another good place is Sonoma Wine Bar!

The Shoutout series is all about recognizing that our success and where we are in life is at least somewhat thanks to the efforts, support, mentorship, love and encouragement of others. So is there someone that you want to dedicate your shoutout to?
I want to shoutout my mom! She was the ONLY person that took what I wanted to do seriously from the beginning to now. A lot of people don’t know nor realize that I look up to my mom especially towards fashion. We share a passion and love for fashion, we talk about fashion everyday. She helps me when I get stuck with a outfit, or helps me with ideas! My blog name SheSimplyChic™️ Is reflection of her. My favorite quote from my her is “Always simple but elegant” which is my phrase for my blog. Love you to the moon and back and infinity, thank you for ALWAYS helping me whenever i need you.
