We had the good fortune of connecting with Bernitha Anderson and we’ve shared our conversation below.
Hi Bernitha, what was your thought process behind starting your own business?
I decided to start my own business because I wanted to create stability for myself and family. I never wanted to be in a position where I would give my all to a company, be dismissed, and have no way to provide for my loved ones. I also wanted to create something that would give my child options and ownership.
What should our readers know about your business?
I am the owner of a boutique law firm, The Law Office of B. Faye Jones, that practices in the areas of family law, probate law, and estate planning in Cypress, TX. I am also the owner of two companies that I co-own with my husband, Anderson Inspections, a residential and commercial property inspection company; and Integrated Facilities Management, a facilities management company. I love what I do; especially when it comes to educating people about estate planning tools. I get very excited when I speak to marginalized groups who don’t typically have access to legal services and/or have been fed a lot of myths and misinformation. What sets me apart from others is everything I do, I do it because i’m passionate about it. It took alot of grit to get where I am today; coupled with focus, determination, and perseverance. Along the way, i’ve learned relationships are everything. It is important to build great relationships with people because sometimes it’s those relationships that will put you in rooms that you never imagined you would have been in. I want the world to know that i’m just a girl from Settegast, TX who loves the Lord and dared to dream.
If you had a friend visiting you, what are some of the local spots you’d want to take them around to?
If my best friend was visiting the city we would definitely do a lot of eating. I am a foodie. We are definitely hitting my brother, Lejon Stewart’s place, Big 6 Bar B Que on Highway 6. If it’s the summer, we are going to Yum Yum’s on Highway 6 and ordering the “Big 6 Special”. The following day we will visit my parent’s in Spring and stop by Chitalian Pizzeria on Kuykendahl before heading to Hurricane Harbor Splashtown. Next we will travel to Moody Gardens, Galveston Island Historic Pleasure Pier, and Kemah; after which, I will require a long shower and nap. Dinner will be nearby at Sam’s Boat in Towne Lake. We will spend some time exploring my neighborhood from the lazy river to the kayaking, paddle boats, and trail; and I cannot forget the nearby Outlet Mall. We would spend a Saturday in The Woodlands, where we would visit the mall, ride the Trolley, walk the Waterway, dine at Del Frisco’s Grille for brunch, TruLuck’s for Dinner, and grab the tuxedo cheesecake from The Cheesecake Factory. On Sunday morning, my husband would make breakfast and we will travel to New Day Deliverance Holiness Church in north Houston to hear my Pastor, Apostle Richard R. Taylor. After church, my friend will enjoy a homecooked meal by none other than my mom. The woman is famous for her etoufee, gumbo, and candied yams.
Who else deserves some credit and recognition?
My parents (Clarence and Sharon Jones), my spouse (Bennie Lawrence Anderson, Jr.), and my child (Bennie Luke Anderson) definitely deserve a shoutout. I have the most amazing parents who have never once told me what I could not do. My schedule is so crazy that I could not do the things I do without my spouse. My husband is a very observant and discerning man. He ensures everything is taken care of at the house and with our son; and he ensures I eat and rest. My son is the most amazing human being. I see a lot of me in him; and he makes me so proud. At four years old he is a force to be reckoned with; and I cannot wait to see the mark he will make.
