We had the good fortune of connecting with Bianca Marin and we’ve shared our conversation below.

Hi Bianca, can you walk us through the thought-process of starting your business?
The idea of starting my own business stemmed from the situation in which I found myself at the time. I was working as an elementary school teacher at the time. Then I fell ill and was diagnosed with rheumatoid arthritis. I continued to work for as long as I could but my mobility was limited and the pain unbearable. This lead me to have to leave my job and with the treatment I started I was unable to commit to any employer. As I thought about what I could do in my condition I came across a video of a girl who talked about selling candies. I did some research about the investment cost, labor, and product details. Everything was in my reach and so I decided to go for it. Pikositos Candies was born and started my business.

What should our readers know about your business?
The care and quality that goes into the production of each candy bag is what sets me apart. As I make each product I make sure that it is to the standard of something I would consume myself and give to my family. I am in the beginning stages of my business so there is still a lot of growth to be accomplished. Getting to where I am currently involved much trial and error with product creation. I also had to become a social media and marketing expert. One of the greatest lesson I have learned is how to market to the targeted audience. I would like the world to know that my brand’s origin started from a place of pain in my life and now is my encouragement to continue working through my condition.

If you had a friend visiting you, what are some of the local spots you’d want to take them around to?
Some of my favorite places to eat are at Cypress Breakfast House, Taqueria Laredo, Mico’s Hot Chicken, Mexpozole, and Stanton’s City Bites. When I have a sweet tooth the best place is Treat! Cupcakes. Houston Museum District is an amazing place to visit if your into the arts. For shopping, and entertainment CITYCENTRE is the place to find something for diverse interest.

Shoutout is all about shouting out others who you feel deserve additional recognition and exposure. Who would you like to shoutout?
Throughout all this process my mother Susana as been my support and literally my strength. She does for me everything I can’t do physically and more. When I told her about my plans to start this business she said, “lets go then and get started”. Her support and enthusiasm was the catalyst for starting my business.
