We had the good fortune of connecting with Blanca Pena and we’ve shared our conversation below.
Hi Blanca, is there something that you feel is most responsible for your success?
I want to succeed for all women who were told no. I want to succeed for my daughters so they can see that they can do anything they put their mind to.
I want to be first generation success in as many ways as possible…I want my parents sacrifices to be worth it.
I also want to succeed for myself, I want to look back one day and say “you did it, you did that!”
Can you open up a bit about your work and career? We’re big fans and we’d love for our community to learn more about your work.
Art has always spoken to me. Whether it be art, paintings, photography, I always loved it because it made me feel something. So when I started modeling it was such an amazing feeling to be a part of art. Then fast forward now I am part of it as a makeup artist as well.
I was the first latina model in my city when I first started, so it was a little hard but easy in the beginning if that makes sense.
It was easy to get jobs because I was different but it was hard because nobody had actually started working with latinas here.
I did enjoy the challenges though because it made me work harder and prove more with my work.
Now as a makeup artist I am making it my duty to help poc get easier access to opportunities they are usually overlooked in. I am very inclusive and love working on new faces.
Who else deserves some credit and recognition?
I want to give a shout out to the amazing women in my creative community who always push me to try new things & believe in me. Who hype me up and make me feel like I can do anything. A huge shout out to my amazing husband who no matter how different we are never has told me to stop or be negative, he is there by my side with every new step i take.
