We had the good fortune of connecting with Blessing Daniel and we’ve shared our conversation below.
Hi Blessing, what led you to pursuing a creative path professionally?
I started taking pictures at the age of 11 and was known for capturing events at my church and photographing all my “wonderful” church aunties after service. Apart from being able to capture such timeless memories, my favorite part of it all was seeing the huge smile on people’s faces after showing them their photos.
Initially, it was just a hobby that I was passionate about. It never once crossed my mind to start a business with it. Mainly because 1.) I didn’t feel like my work was good enough to stand on a professional level. 2.) At that time, I didn’t really know of any successful photographers. Most people I saw were doing it as a side hobby. Yet, despite all the encouragement and motivation I received from people for years, telling me to develop myself and start my photography business. I just never really saw it as anything, and then COVID-19 happened.
I started seeing so many of my friends own in on their passions and turning them into businesses. Whether it be starting a podcast, youtube channel, creating and selling art, etc, at that time, I had just started my last semester of college online and didn’t have a job. So most of my days were spent at home. One day I remember sitting in my room talking to God and just asking him what giftings and talents he gave me that I could use to profit from. He reminded me of my photography, and that very day I decided to start Blessing Daniel Photography.
Can you open up a bit about your work and career? We’re big fans and we’d love for our community to learn more about your work.
I am a lifestyle and Portrait photographer based in Fort Worth, TX. I help create timeless imagery uniquely tailored to you. My style can often be described as timeless, crisp, and colorful. I’m so proud of my journey. I went from not believing I was good enough to going on year 2 of my photography business. With each shoot, I’m blown away at what I’m able to create. Every day I wake up and choose faith over my fears, and seeing how far I’ve come keeps me inspired for my future!
I have had many struggles, but those challenges are a major contributor to my photography journey. The biggest of them all would have to be me finding and accepting myself as a creative and overcoming feelings of inadequacy. This journey has taught me so much about myself and really opened my eyes to realize that I am a lot more stronger and wiser than I thought. I’ve only tapped the surface of what I’m capable of doing, and I cant wait to see what God does through me in the years to come.
Any places to eat or things to do that you can share with our readers? If they have a friend visiting town, what are some spots they could take them to?
I’m a foodie at heart, so we would stop by Cookshack for their amazing spicy chicken and waffles for brunch and then hit up hibachi teppanyaki & sushi for dinner. I am obsessed with their stir fry soba noodles!
The Shoutout series is all about recognizing that our success and where we are in life is at least somewhat thanks to the efforts, support, mentorship, love and encouragement of others. So is there someone that you want to dedicate your shoutout to?
I would love to shout out my amazing parents, Michael and Funmi Daniel! I wouldn’t be anywhere close to where I am today without their constant support, prayers, and encouragement! I also have to give a shout-out to my incredible little sister Nkechi! Nkechi has been one of my biggest supporters, the person I bounce all my business ideas off, my personal assistant, model, videographer, creative director, and so much more.
I am also beyond lucky to have so many supportive friends and family in my life. Who have been there encouraging me every step of the way. They believed in me and hired me, even when I had no clue what I was doing. These are people that have been promoting me from day one, and for that, I will forever be grateful!
