We had the good fortune of connecting with Blu J and we’ve shared our conversation below.

Hi Blu, what led you to pursuing a creative path professionally?
Working for others wasn’t working for me. Over the course of 3 years, I’ve lost 9 jobs and not because I’m bad at “doing my job” but due to layoffs, or my boss going to China, or, most recently, the global pandemic. I’m dispensable when I work for someone else. When I work for me, doing what I love, no one can take that away from me.

Can you give our readers an introduction to your business? Maybe you can share a bit about what you do and what sets you apart from others?
My perspective is my art form and I pride myself on being to build my business based on my art. Many of my clients choose to Book with Blu because of the unique outlook I provide and my unlimiting belief that anything is possible. Getting here was difficult in the beginning because the growth demanded that I become aware, honest, and real with me about what I was going through. I needed believe in myself first and foremost. Once I overcame self-doubt and began to take care of myself, I saw the flourish in my business happen almost simultaneously. Looking in the mirror and reminding myself of who I was, who I am, and who I will be is how I managed to exceed my own expectations. I believe that’s a great lesson to carry along.

Any places to eat or things to do that you can share with our readers? If they have a friend visiting town, what are some spots they could take them to?
This is a service I offer as the Executor on abluheart.com; but I don’t mind sharing my favorite spot. The Gumbo Jam every Sunday at 33 Waugh Dr is always my favorite. There’s live music, dope local artist and a great vibe. Sometimes we draw in a instrumental and vocal celebrities, but even our local artist are amazing additions to compliment the band. The bar makes the best Jack Punch and the gumbo is the most enjoyable experience to have as an end to a great weekend or the beginning of an amazing one.

Shoutout is all about shouting out others who you feel deserve additional recognition and exposure. Who would you like to shoutout?
My son, The Baby King! His presence has definitely acted as a catalyst to my growth as a professional and I’m eternally grateful for him. A lot of my motivation and encouragement is borne from his laughter, his smiles, and his engagement with my content.
