We had the good fortune of connecting with Brandi Garrett and we’ve shared our conversation below.

Hi Brandi, we’d love to hear more about how you thought about starting your own business?
When I started my business I was travelling the United States as a businesswoman in corporate America. I went from one climate to another on a weekly basis and my skin started to react negatively. I had always been into skincare prior to that, and purchased many products to remedy my skincare issues. I was unable to find satisfactory solutions, and started to research natural ingredients for skin care solutions and over time I developed a line that addresses most skincare concerns. Can you open up a bit about your work and career? We’re big fans and we’d love for our community to learn more about your work.
Prior to starting Sweet Indulgences Beauty in 2009 I was always know as a “craft queen”. I have always had an affinity for craft projects and being creative. As with any business that you start the process is not easy and you don’t always know what direction to go in. I spent many years in the trial and error process. I have learned along the way that you can utilize your mistakes and turn them into something useful. Many times when I thought I had made the wrong decision it was actually the right one, because it helped me yo get closer to my purpose. If there is any advice that I would give to a new entrepreneur it would be to just go with it! I spent so much time trying to be so calculated and when I started just going with it that’s where the success was. Sweet Indulgences Beauty is truly focused on our customers. My goal is for my customers to feel more confident in their skin by using our products. If you had a friend visiting you, what are some of the local spots you’d want to take them around to?
I am a native Houstonian so I truly love this city! Houston has so much to offer anyone and over the years I have some favorite places that I have discovered. Anyone who knows me knows that I love pizza! Some of my favorite pizza spots in Houston are Star Pizza (my absolute favorite), Spankys and Frank’s Downtown. I also love Burns BBQ (best baked potato) in town, and Farmers Fresh Market (best soulfood). On any given week you will see me at one of these places. I also love the parks here. Some of my favorites are Buffalo Bayou Park, Hermann Park, and Levy Park. We have a lot of famous Houstonians here in Houston, and if you have the opportunity to check out some performers my favorite is “Slim Thug” (Stayve Thomas) he truly embodies Houston and our culture. The Shoutout series is all about recognizing that our success and where we are in life is at least somewhat thanks to the efforts, support, mentorship, love and encouragement of others. So is there someone that you want to dedicate your shoutout to?
I would like to thank a few individuals that have been vital to my success. My parents (Ricky and Sandra Garrett) have provided support in many ways and have truly supported my journey as an entrepreneur. I have always had an entrepreneurial spirit and my parents have travelled with me to grow my business. MyMom is the lead model for my growing Athleisure line, and my Dad is the producer for most of my virtual shopping videos. Another source of inspiration for me has been my grandmother (Alice B. Grogan deceased in 2018) She always believed in me from the start and encouraged me to believe in myself and my business.
