We had the good fortune of connecting with Bree Cosby and we’ve shared our conversation below.
Hi Bree, why did you decide to pursue a creative path?
I pursued a creative AND artistic career because i’ve always worked well with my hands. Whether it be drawing, painting, writing, or crafting. I’ve always had a fond love for all things art. The idea for my very first pair of earrings came to me in a dream, and the next day, I immediately gathered the supplies I needed and literally, made my dream come true. Being able to share my art with the world has been such a blessing. Even if money wasn’t involved, I receive great joy from seeing my art in other spaces around the world.
Alright, so let’s move onto what keeps you busy professionally?
In no way am I tooting my own horn (toot toot), but I’ve never seen any art like my own. People have told me that i’ve inspired them to create their own versions of some of my pieces, so that alone is such a beautiful feeling. I got to where I am today because of many sleepless days and nights, constant encouragement from my friends and loved ones, and keeping my eyes on the bigger picture. There were times where friends would come over my house to simply help me fulfill orders, write thank you cards, or just be present with me as I created. One of the biggest lessons I’ve learned is to not give up. You never know who you’re inspiring, simply by just existing. What I would like the world to know, is that I was here. I brought joy to people, I made a difference, even if it was small.
If you had a friend visiting you, what are some of the local spots you’d want to take them around to?
This is a good one! One of my absolute favorite places to go in Houston are the museums in the Museum District. My personal favorites are the Museum of Fine Arts, Natural Science Museum (especially the butterfly dome and observatory), and the Houston Museum of African American Culture. I’m pretty much a homebody (aren’t most creatives?!), so there are definitely places i’d like to visit…ya know…when my social battery is charged. A really cool place I’ve heard about and would like to go to, is Axelrad. Love the vibes and atmosphere!
Shoutout is all about shouting out others who you feel deserve additional recognition and exposure. Who would you like to shoutout?
I would like to dedicate this shoutout to my late great-grandfather, Ray Cosby, and my late grandmother, Anna Ray Cosby. They both passed away almost two years ago, so they weren’t here to witness my business take-off, nor were they here to celebrate in my biggest moments. They were a huge part of my life and journey, and I wish they were still here in this lifetime to share this with me, but I know they are with me in spirit, every step of the way.
