We had the good fortune of connecting with Bree Manning and we’ve shared our conversation below.
Hi Bree, can you walk us through the thought-process of starting your business?
I started my own business because there was a lacking presence of quality hair extension suppliers in my region. I’ve always been a person that invest in my hair. I decided to take matters into my own hands and start my own business so that other ladies such as myself who enjoy wearing extensions would be able to purchase quality hair extensions without breaking the bank.
Can you open up a bit about your work and career? We’re big fans and we’d love for our community to learn more about your work.
At this time I still I have a job. I plan on retiring within the next year however I have had an 14 year career that I started and molded from the ground up. Currently I work as a senior IT business systems analyst for a major healthcare organization. Working in corporate America while also running a business is extremely hard work. There are many nights where I legit cry because I feel like I was pouring more of my energy into someone else’s dream rather than my own dream. To overcome this I had to incorporate a healthy work/life balance into my life. Basically I had to make sure that when I clocked out for the day I literally clocked out and close my laptop and focus on my life. I refuse to open my laptop or read an email that was work related when I was not on the clock. I had to understand that my time was my time and nobody else’s.
If you had a friend visiting you, what are some of the local spots you’d want to take them around to?
Louisiana is a very historical place. Of course everyone is very familiar with New Orleans Louisiana however there are many other highly recognize tourist spots across the state. I would take my friend to The Louisiana arts and science museum located in Baton Rouge, LA. Our state is also know for the great food. Our next stop would be my personal favorite place in SWLA which is The Best Stop in Scott, LA. They have the best boudin ever! Lastly we definitely would have to take a trip to New Orleans to visit the French Quarter and take a swamp tour.
The Shoutout series is all about recognizing that our success and where we are in life is at least somewhat thanks to the efforts, support, mentorship, love and encouragement of others. So is there someone that you want to dedicate your shoutout to?
I would definitely like to give a shout-out to Marketing by Monrae and SidityDes. I am a business major however these two ladies have dynamically changed the digital marketing game. In this day and age there are so many self proclaimed gurus that are only willing to share information with you that they want you to know. These ladies are like open books. They are true gems and they are passionate about helping other business owners tackle and conquer the digital marketing arena. I also want to shout out IGrowSalons. He is very transparent and very helpful when it comes to breaking down the complexity oh running ads online. All of these individuals were essential to help with the scale my business.
