We had the good fortune of connecting with Brian Gibula and we’ve shared our conversation below.
Hi Brian, can you share a quote or affirmation with us?
“Without life’s abrasions, we’d never be polished enough to shine.” This has always resonated with me ever since I heard it. running my own business has been very rewarding and fulfilling but there have been challenges. This quote reminds me to work through the challenges that may arise so I can learn, grow, and adapt to them.
Can you open up a bit about your work and career? We’re big fans and we’d love for our community to learn more about your work.
After years of doing maintenance and repair work for a number of companies and helping family. and friends with repairs around their homes. I decided to venture out on my own and start a handyman business. For me, these repairs always seemed so simple yet for others, they seemed at a loss for what to do. so along with a handyman business, I decided to create a youtube channel to help those who may want to do some of these things themselves. My goal was to guide people through the repairs and show them how it’s done so I decided that would be a great brand name. How It’s Done. It was a bit challenging getting clients at first but I was fortunate to cross paths with a few real estate agents and brokers that love how quickly i can make repairs and upgrades to the homes they have been hired to list. I would say that one challenge i have faced is understanding that since it’s just me at this point there are certain jobs that are just too large for me to take on. I’ve had to limit myself to jobs that I could complete in a day or so.
If you had a friend visiting you, what are some of the local spots you’d want to take them around to?
Personally, I love nature. Something about it just seems to recharge me. so we would definitely need to have a kayaking trip maybe on buffalo bayou or down near Kemah. feeling the change in water density as you transition from fresh to saltwater kayaking is an interesting experience. I’d also take them to some of the parks and museums and depending on the season maybe even the Houston zoo. explore a few farmer’s markets and maybe even a brewery or two. again depending on the season maybe we could hit a cultural festival. Honestly, Houston has such a diverse community and so many hidden gems there would be no shortage of things to do.
Who else deserves some credit and recognition?
There are so many people that I have done work for who have helped me along this path. Most of all I would like to thank my friend Ali and Holly who have encouraged me to go my own way.
