We had the good fortune of connecting with Bridget Heredia and we’ve shared our conversation below.
Hi Bridget, where are your from? We’d love to hear about how your background has played a role in who you are today?
I am blessed to be born in Houston, TX from immigrants parents. This completely shaped me into who I am today. My mom is from Mexico and my dad is from El Salvador, Not only do I get the best of both worlds, but they both instilled in me the importance of hard work and education as a child. My mother always had a desire to pursue her education, but didn’t have that opportunity as an immigrant. Because of this, I knew the value and blessing a higher education was to me personally. Growing up in Houston, I was surrounded by friends who came from similar backgrounds: children of immigrants and first generation college students. Being around people who valued their parents sacrifices, cultural traditions and education motivated me to not just pursue a college career, but to embrace all the talents and skills I had to offer this country as a bilingual, first generation latino american.
Alright, so let’s move onto what keeps you busy professionally?
I remember in high school I absolutely loved my Yearbook/Journalist class. I loved connecting to other people and getting to interview them. I loved writing articles. Most of all, I loved photography. But I always thought of this as a hobby until I realized I CAN make a career out of this. I decided to take an Intro to Communication class in my first semester in college, still a little unsure if this was the path for me. After hearing more about online marketing, public relations, creative design, photography and more, I was hooked. I knew this was the field for me not just because I had a passion for being the voice of a company, brand, or person but because it was a career that would allow me the flexibility to do it my time and my way. Now, as a mother of 2 crazy boys, I love the fact that I can make my own hours, take on as many clients as I can handle, and work from home while being able to spend time with them daily. I love and am blessed that I get to have a career I love while getting to enjoy motherhood. That was a big factor that drew me to this field.
Let’s say your best friend was visiting the area and you wanted to show them the best time ever. Where would you take them? Give us a little itinerary – say it was a week long trip, where would you eat, drink, visit, hang out, etc.
Growing up in Houston/Sugar Land, you’d think I love the city life, but I am more drawn to the slow country life. I would probably take a friend out to eat some good colombian food at La Fogata! Some shopping in Sugar Land because, less traffic! Maybe think about catching a Rockets game or out for some horse riding and pumpkin patchin’ in Richmond, TX.
Shoutout is all about shouting out others who you feel deserve additional recognition and exposure. Who would you like to shoutout?
My parents were always motivating me to do more, especially my mom. She was the type of parent that if I got a B in school, she would say, “that’s great, but next time let’s make that an A”. As annoying as that would seem sometimes, her words would remind me that I was always capable of more. In school and in life. She reminded me daily that I am a creation of God and with that, I hold so much power to do amazing things as long as I remember that divine potential. It really changed my mentality to think that way. That we all have to power to accomplish any goal we set for ourselves in this life as long as we give it all we have: our time, dedication, and energy.
