We had the good fortune of connecting with Brie Perks and we’ve shared our conversation below.
Hi Brie, what was your thought process behind starting your own business?
Funny answer to this one. It was my husband’s idea. He is more analytical and tends to overthink things where I am a little more impulsive and go with the gut. He asked me what I thought and I was all for it but also thinking he would research and over analyze it and change his mind. Next thing I know we have a Wine and Spirit wholesale license and are on a call with out first brand Ghostwood Whiskey. After that call I asked him a few questions about what his plan was for selling and delivery and realized he had no idea what all this was going to entail. I took over at that point and kind of kicked him out (he was also pretty busy with his career at this time). That was three years ago!
Let’s talk shop? Tell us more about your career, what can you share with our community?
I feel what sets me apart is my integrity, dedication and hard work ethics. I have come a long way the last three years and have learned that I am smarter and stronger than I sometimes let myself believe. I graduated with a business degree form UTD and then went on to graduate from the TCU Ranch Management Program. TCU Ranch Management really gave me the tools I needed to start and run a business. Without having that experience of writing a ranch management plan (business plan) I wouldn’t have known what direction to start Hasty. There have been may struggles and challenges along the way and I am sure there are more to come but that is to be expected with a start up company.
The Shoutout series is all about recognizing that our success and where we are in life is at least somewhat thanks to the efforts, support, mentorship, love and encouragement of others. So is there someone that you want to dedicate your shoutout to?
Definitely my husband, Wade, my parents and my kids. I was traveling a lot in the beginning and it was a team effort with our two kiddos, Loyd (11) and Jade (8). All of my friends were extremely supportive and were there to talk me through the times I thought, what the heck was I thinking!
