We had the good fortune of connecting with Briquel Robinson and we’ve shared our conversation below.
Hi Briquel, what was your thought process behind starting your own business?
The thought process behind starting this brand was simple. I’m a single mom of 4 beautiful children and I started to notice with myself was that no matter what my children activities were, I made sure that I was able to make it and support them in anyway that I could. I made sure that they were getting my full attention. I made sure that they understood when mommy couldn’t make it, and that I would make it up to them. Even with being tired and drained from working and other duties, as well as dealing with my own personal issue and mental health, I always showed up for my children. It definitely takes a village to raise children, but in some cases, some moms don’t have a village to help them. They literally do everything from a-z. That’s when I started calling myself that motivated mommy. It was my daily affirmation to encourage myself. To keep me grounded with myself and my children. It was who I was, who I am. I thought, I know its other moms out here that feel the same way as I. No matter if you are a stay at home mom, working mom, single mom, I knew they could relate, and that’s when the brand was birthed.
What should our readers know about your business?
That Motivated Mommy is self explanatory. This brand was built around those moms that make things happen no matter the circumstances, the hurdles, the road blocks, the outside noise. I’m simple here to give those moms their reward, because moms are not recognized as much as we should be. That’s what make my brand different. These are not just words, but our lifestyle. Let me tell you, building this brand was not easy. You have to be mentally prepared and have a great team behind you to build a brand from scratch. I wasn’t mentally prepared in the beginning. My thought process wasn’t focused on the business side of things, but on the product itself. When i launched the t-shirts back in late 2018 it was a bust! My confidence level dropped, and unfortunately i stop selling my shirts for about a year and a half. I got myself together mentally, and relaunched! It was a roller coaster, lessons after lesson, but I got back on that horse, because of the brand I created I knew I couldn’t just give up. I came back harder and I’m unstoppable now. What I want all the moms to know are, they are the reason, we are all in the mommyhood together, and you are not alone.
Let’s say your best friend was visiting the area and you wanted to show them the best time ever. Where would you take them? Give us a little itinerary – say it was a week long trip, where would you eat, drink, visit, hang out, etc.
Discovery Green for sure. Paint on some canvas and create some memories. While we are downtown, grab one of Houston famous hotdog from YoYos oh my gosh they’re so good, the wait is long but worth it. Do some day brunch at Parma, their menu and drinks are good and its a great vibe. I’m a big kid, so I would go go-cart driving, let my inner child run wild. Also its a vineyard id love to check out, Wild Stallion Vineyard. Houston has so much to do and activities to have fun with like the scooter. Ride around downtown and take in the nightlife
Who else deserves some credit and recognition?
My children, and my mother
