We had the good fortune of connecting with Brittany Keller and we’ve shared our conversation below.
Hi Brittany, can you walk us through the thought-process of starting your business?
The first thing that came to mind was can I really do this?? Before I graduated high school my dream was to become a labor and delivery nurse. While coming up I loved babies and it has always been my passion to become a hair stylist. After graduating high school and being accepted into The University Of Texas At San Antonio I suddenly decided that I wasn’t going to take that route. Instead I decide to enroll into “Chi Lonestar Cosmetology School” as a fulltime student. At the time I had my doubts because, I absolutely didn’t think I could do it. Little did I know I could. One year later in 2014 I finally graduated and received my Cosmetology License. Starting out as a new stylist was hard everywhere I applied wanted you to have experience. I thought no one would ever give me a chance at this. I continued to pray and ask God to Guide me in the right direction. The one thing I said I would never do as a stylist was braid hair. I had no knowledge on braiding it just wasn’t my thing. God had other plans. I stayed up late at night practicing on myself and my mannequin head until I finally got it. I received my first house call for braids and since then that is the majority of my appointments. Braids Braids Braids Everybody want’s braids. Before I knew it my clientele started to grow. In 2019, everything was going well then suddenly, I was Involved in a bad car accident that disabled one of my hands for two years. I just knew my cosmetology career was over. While out from doing hair I Prayed and asked God what am I supposed to do now? That’s when I came up with the idea Of “Queen B Essentials”. I Continued to be obedient and let GOD lead me. After 4 surgeries and a number of times going to physical therapy. I was back and better than ever. In 2022 I got my own salon suite and started back accepting appointments, Sometimes God may slow you down but, I am here to say he will always bring you back to bigger and better things than before. I’m back and I’m better Thanking God for allowing me to Get Back Up and To Never Give Up!! It’s Not My Timing But God’s Timing!!
What should our readers know about your business?
The one thing that I am proud of is me not giving up especially after my car accident. Having a business is not always peaches and cream. You will learn to see what works best for you.Starting off I had no clue what I was doing , but overtime I learned from my mistakes and I also learned, how to keep up and juggle both businesses. I believe that God should be the center of any and everything that you do.My best advice is to come up with a master plan for your business, and keep him close. Just remember what works for one won’t work for all. Never let someone else’s success be the reason why you don’t keep going you never know when it will be your time to shine.I am proud to say that i’ve been a Licensed Cosmetologist for 10 years and now I’m the owner of queen B essentials where I make custom party favors,T-shirts, tumblers, and more!!!
Who else deserves some credit and recognition?
First and foremost I want to give a shout out to GOD because without him there would be no me. I want to give a shout out to the man of my dreams my High School Sweet Heart, My Husband Cory. He has stuck by my side this whole time. He has also lifted me up and pushed me to be the person I am today and I am SOOO Thankful for him. When I wanted to give up he encouraged me to keep going!!!I would like to shout out my parents for bringing me into this world and and Raising me to be the woman I am today. My sisters, nieces, nephews, cousins and my best friend since 9 years old. Last but not least one of my clients that I consider my family she has stuck with me and checked on me even after my accident she has always sent me encouraging words and kept me in good spirits.
