Meet Brooklyn Clark | Photographer & Communications Director

We had the good fortune of connecting with Brooklyn Clark and we’ve shared our conversation below.
Hi Brooklyn, what was your thought process behind starting your own business?
I have loved photography for over 10 years. I worked at a photography studio through college and intended on working there full time afterwards. It was a mix of “I’m sick of building someone else’s brand and name” thoughts and also the fact they couldn’t take me on in the capacity that I wanted. I took only a few small clients at first and then fully decided to launch my business about a year after. If you can make money doing something you love, then why not?

Alright, so let’s move onto what keeps you busy professionally?
I am a photographer and creative director. Like many, I got my first camera very young and just had fun with it for many years. The first time someone was willing to pay me for photos was my freshman year of college and I couldn’t have been more excited. Since that moment I have done everything I could to improve and be the best I can be.
My favorite type session to do is portrait/seniors. I love being able to show someone the beauty that they hold but don’t see. Being able to make someones personality shine through photos is an incredible gift that I am forever thankful to have been given. The love I have for these sessions for sure comes from running around with my siblings taking “model pictures” growing up.
I decided to take my instagram fully black and white in 2017 and I think it was one of my best decisions. There are millions of talented photographers out there but I think that having my feed fully black and white sets me apart. I do shoot and edit mostly in color but I do LOVE black and white.
One of the biggest lessons I’ve learned along the way is to rest. Take time to live your life, to sleep, to make memories, to be present with the people you love. I got so wrapped up in being busy and successful that I lost some time with the people in my life who matter most. I have taken specific seasons off to focus on those things and it has helped me so much.
Let’s say your best friend was visiting the area and you wanted to show them the best time ever. Where would you take them? Give us a little itinerary – say it was a week long trip, where would you eat, drink, visit, hang out, etc.
Oh gosh I’ll just tell you right now that I live in a small Texas town called “San Angelo” but it has its charms.
Restaurants to hit for sure:
Zero One
Cork and Pig
The Grill
Fuentes
Hangout/Coffee would be my favorite spot called Buttercup All Day Cafe. I always get the black nitro its amazing.
We have a couple cool vintage shops and things like that but thats about all we have to offer here.

The Shoutout series is all about recognizing that our success and where we are in life is at least somewhat thanks to the efforts, support, mentorship, love and encouragement of others. So is there someone that you want to dedicate your shoutout to?
I would love to shout out a bunch of people in my life who have supported my business, my family of course. Each of my family members have supported me more than I could have ever imagined. My friends are so much support, sharing my posts, suggesting me to people, and giving me encouragement when I am down. I have learned a lot online from sources like Peter McKinnon, Lizzie Peirce, and the Marina Williams mentor program. Also thank you to Kayla Griffith for supporting me and putting my name in places like this!
