We had the good fortune of connecting with Caitlin Wright and we’ve shared our conversation below.
Hi Caitlin, how has your perspective on work-life balance evolved over time?
My perspective on work-life balance has evolved over time by continuing to show up. Going and growing through life has served me to become more disciplined with my time and my goals. Being 30 years old and having the different responsibilities I have now, that I didn’t have as an 11 year old when I started my experience of braiding hair and making income has evolved as well. I now have a 10 year old daughter, more clientele, more room to grow, as well as more things to eliminate that doesn’t serve where I want to grow physically, mentally, spiritually, and financially.
Can you open up a bit about your work and career? We’re big fans and we’d love for our community to learn more about your work.
My experience in the beauty industry started when I was 9 yrs old, I learned how to braid hair at home, at my neighbors houses, at church members houses. I started really making money by time I was 11 yrs old, my Mom would refer me to all her co workers, so after school I would go to her job and do hair in the empty class rooms. In 6th grade I really got to showcase my work at school, which led me to my friends houses after school, and eventually other people in heir families and the referrals kept coming. I was doing hair any chance I got all throughout grade school until I graduated HS. Two weeks later I enrolled into cosmetology school, completing 1600hrs and earning my license. Two weeks after that, I went into my first salon. Continuing my education at hair shows, classes, and specialized trainings. I have a beautiful clientele and customer service base business I’ve built locally and professionally for over 10yrs. Sharing my expertise, connecting with the communities, the film industry, and with the leaders to enhance the lives of others on a daily bases.
Any places to eat or things to do that you can share with our readers? If they have a friend visiting town, what are some spots they could take them to?
For a week long trip in California, I’m sure everybody’s best friend wants to experience Los Angeles in some way, Hollywood, or San Diego. I would take them to the beaches, rent some bikes or the electric scooters and cruise the streets with the sun shinning and wind blowing. We would go to the malls, walk the Santee Alley to shop outside, eat some bacon rolled hot dogs. The food trucks are so good! I like a good winery. For night life we would go to some clubs, skating, and bowling. I mean anything you can think of, Cali definitely has an environment for it.
The Shoutout series is all about recognizing that our success and where we are in life is at least somewhat thanks to the efforts, support, mentorship, love and encouragement of others. So is there someone that you want to dedicate your shoutout to?
Absolutely, my faith in God has brought me this far. I have a long list of amazing people that helped me along the way. Anyone I learn from automatically gets recognition. From my neighbors, family members, church members and leaders, teachers, counselors, clients, Mom, Dad, my siblings, my awesome Uncles, and last but not least, my daughter Jaliyah.
