We had the good fortune of connecting with Cameron King and we’ve shared our conversation below.
Hi Cameron, why did you decide to pursue a creative path?
Acting makes me a better person. When i step on set or stage or get in the booth, I operate from a place of complete servitude. All selfishness is thrown out the window. I’m thinking about how can I serve the story, my scene partner, the director, etc. Anything outside of myself and once I’m in that trance, I’m completely consumed by the moment. I’ve learned to tap into that in my real life. It makes for a much more enjoyable human experience.
Can you open up a bit about your work and career? We’re big fans and we’d love for our community to learn more about your work.
Choosing a career as filmmaker or an actor takes the word unpredictable to the infinite degree. There are no guarantees in this business, so I’ve had to learn to simply enjoy the ride. I get to determine what success means to me and I get to enjoy creating. I don’t need anyone else’s permission to that. Five years ago if you would’ve told me that I would have projects streaming on platforms like Prime Video, Peacock and Tubi, the little girl in me would have squealed. But here I am directing on the side, writing my own content, and anticipating the release of my debut as a leading lady ( Plain Sight available everywhere) Along the way I may have overstayed my welcome in certain spaces or even made the wrong kinds of connections, but I wouldn’t give any of that up. I’m happy to have made it this far, and I’m in a space where I’m elated to see where this path takes me. I surrender control.
Let’s say your best friend was visiting the area and you wanted to show them the best time ever. Where would you take them? Give us a little itinerary – say it was a week long trip, where would you eat, drink, visit, hang out, etc.
I have two personalities: tacos and sushi! As long as I can get a strawberry watermelon margarita (with sugar around the rim) we’re good. I would recommend El Borrego or Mongo.
Shoutout is all about shouting out others who you feel deserve additional recognition and exposure. Who would you like to shoutout?
I think every person I’ve ever encountered has had their hand in my story. The thoughts in my head run a million miles a minute and a lot of it is conversations or interactions I’ve had both real and unreal. And as an artist I pull a lot from my real-world experiences. From those closest to me like my boyfriend or my sister to those I meet in passing like members at my gym to people at the airport. Acting is like a social science. It’s the study of human behavior, emotions, wants and needs. And a huge part of acting is getting to know people.
