Meet Candy Joya | Realtor

We had the good fortune of connecting with Candy Joya and we’ve shared our conversation below.
Hi Candy, is there something that you feel is most responsible for your success?
First let me say, I feel as if I have not reached my full potential of success. For me, success is something that is on going and is never a final destination; well at least in my opinion. I come from a long line of strong women; some of whom were business owners. The one common denomination that they all shared that I feel was instilled in me would be ambition. No matter how high or low I’ve been in life, it’s my ambition that drives me and keeps me aiming to be a better version of myself daily. Once I have my mind set on something nothing stands in my way.

Can you open up a bit about your work and career? We’re big fans and we’d love for our community to learn more about your work.
After working in sales in the O&G industry for over 17 years, the pandemic was a turning point in my life. Like most everyone, I was laid off, going through an emotional roller coaster and had a bleak outlook for the future. I found myself not knowing what I wanted to do, which was a first for me.
During this time, I did some soul searching to think about my next steps forward. I knew that this time, I didn’t want anyone but myself to be in control of my career or my income.
I knew I enjoyed and was passionate about helping people, building relationships and was not afraid of hard work. After much research and reflection, I decided to take a leap of faith and become a realtor. I wanted to be my own boss. Although changing careers can be scary, especially later in life, I was excited to start this new chapter. I now had an opportunity to build a lasting career as well as create a brand of my own.It hasn’t been easy, but success doesn’t always come easy or without sacrifices. With real estate being so multifaceted, I have been able to broaden my talents and now I’m specialized in residential, leasing and investors in Houston and surrounding areas. It has been rewarding to know that I’ve been able to utilize my skills and experience from my previous job and can apply them in my new position as your realtor, Candy Joya.
If you had a friend visiting you, what are some of the local spots you’d want to take them around to?
Being that I love Houston and have lived here all my life, I love being outdoors. In the morning I would start with a bike ride at Buffalo bayou with amazing views of Houston. Followed by brunch at Bosscat Kitchen & Libations. And to walk off some of that good food I would take us on a stroll to see some of Houston’s art walls, such as Graffiti Park, Biscuit Paint Wall or an art gallery such as The Menil Collection. For dinner I would take us to the Travelers Table followed by an evening out at Glorias for some good drinks and salsa dancing.

Who else deserves some credit and recognition?
As an adolescent my mother and I didn’t see eye to eye on many subjects. However, I owe it all to her for the woman that I am today. She instilled ethics, loyalty and the hustle that lives in me today. I also have to give a huge shout out to my brother and sisters who definitely played a vital role in my upbringing.
Last but not least, to the two human beings that have given me the strength on my weakest days and the sun on my darkest day; my son Moses and daughter Destiny. I thank you both for giving me my purpose in life and for always being my number one supporters. I will work hard every day to leave behind a legacy that you both can be proud of.
