We had the good fortune of connecting with Carla Gonzalez and we’ve shared our conversation below.

Hi Carla, we’d love to hear more about how you thought about starting your own business?
My thoughts were that as a curvy individual, I felt I didn’t have a lot of options to be stylish or fashionable. I literally could only shop small sections of certain stores in hopes of finding “something cute”. Pieces of clothing in my size and budget were limited. I was tired of feeling like I had limits to how I wanted to dress. I believed that if I was struggling this way than others with a plus size body would be too. I am the type of person that sees a need, and the wheels in my brain start moving. I start thinking of ways to help fill the gap and little by little I found myself putting together a plus size clothing boutique.

What should our readers know about your business?
Carlas Curves is a plus size clothing and accessory boutique. We started online in August 2021, about a month after launching the boutique online I started seeking out pop up markets as a vendor. Based on the exposure the boutique has had within the pop-up markets; we have gain return customers and followers of the boutique. My goal is simple, I want to offer customers fashionable options that are budget friendly and stylish. I want my customers to know how much I care about them and that every time they shop with me, it fuels me to continue to find today’s looks for plus-size. Our curves are to be celebrated and the best way to do that is to dress in options that make the individual feel as confident as possible.

Let’s say your best friend was visiting the area and you wanted to show them the best time ever. Where would you take them? Give us a little itinerary – say it was a week long trip, where would you eat, drink, visit, hang out, etc.
If one of my friends was visiting Houston, TX for a week I would do a few things for certain. I would take them to eat at Velvet Taco, in the Woodlands. We would then take a trip to a local pop-up market either a (Trendsetters or Puchica Voz market) so they can get a feel for what shopping local looks like in Houston. On a Tuesday night I would take them to play Loteria with Buenas HTX at the Tikila’s in the Heights. I would also recommend we stop by HTX Brow Lab for some eyebrow care. For an evening of great photo ops, drinks and good food, I would take them to POST HTX. Lastly for some shop therapy I would take them to Painted Tree in Kingwood where my boutique is now available.

Shoutout is all about shouting out others who you feel deserve additional recognition and exposure. Who would you like to shoutout?
I’d like to shout out my our lord and savior. Without GOD’s grace and faithfulness I would not be seeking to walk in my purpose. I would also like to shoutout the pop-up markets that I have connected with throughout the year. Those that have put their trust in our boutique and believe in what I am offering the plus-size community. Lastly but certainly never least,  husband David. Every idea that pops into my head, he pumps me up and tells me it’s the best idea ever! Every win the boutique has, he is the first to celebrate with me. He reminds me daily of how far the business has come. Of course, when I doubt myself or the success of the boutique, he listens with no judgment. He is also the best salesman the boutique could have ever asked for.
