We had the good fortune of connecting with Carmen Cooper and we’ve shared our conversation below.
Hi Carmen, can you walk us through the thought-process of starting your business?
We launched our website in 2015 with a passion to create a one of a kind shopping experience! We had a strong desire to create a site where women of all ages could find a look that spoke to them, and complemented their unique style & self image. We also wanted to create fashion that was obtainable to everyone, because we believe that a woman’s outfit strongly impacts how she feels. Everyone deserves to feel beautiful, and that is what I sought to create! After a few years online we decided to open Our first storefront in November 2019 in the Westchase area in Houston, TX. We continue to provide clothing and accessories that are carefully curated to keep our customers in style!
What would you say is your biggest accomplishment?
I am grateful & proud of all of my accomplishments, because I never gave up on myself! However, I am most proud of my role as a Wife & Mother. It has brought me so much joy, and has taught me so much about myself. Everyday I have to set the example of how to handle and overcome obstacles. My children have watched me go & grow through a lot of different experiences with running a clothing store. The ups & the downs they are watching every move I make and one day will mirror what they have seen. So yes curating Vanity Kloset is a great accomplishment, but being a mother by far is my best accomplishment thus far!
If you had a friend visiting you, what are some of the local spots you’d want to take them around to?
I love living in Houston! I’m more of a lounge girl, I no longer enjoy the club scene, but if my best friend was visiting Houston I would take them to enjoy great food & music at Kiss! Then wind down at Le Colonial, and can’t forget Chapman & Kirby for Sunday Funday!
Who else deserves some credit and recognition?
My mother. Gilda Brown is my Inspiration for all things Beauty & Fashion! She was also an Entrepreneur of Gilda’s Floral Designs and she curated many beautiful weddings in her prime! As a teenager, watching how my mother carried herself from how she dressed, to her confidence and her professionalism in how she ran her own business, It definitely left an impression on me & motivated me to want to do the same and leave a legacy for my daughter!
