We had the good fortune of connecting with Carmen Elena Galvan and we’ve shared our conversation below.
Hi Carmen Elena, can you walk us through the thought-process of starting your business?
This might sound crazy, but I never planned on starting a UGC business that helps promote heath-conscious restaurants. It kinda just unraveled into this amazing opportunity on its own. To be honest, I didn’t even know what UGC (user-generated content) was until just a couple of years ago when I was working in a professional project for my master’s degree.
I began my project by defining my three P’s, and I asked myself these questions:
1. What am I Passionate about?
2. What are my Powers?
3. And what is a Problem I want to help solve?
These simple, yet impactful questions helped me set a clear goal for the business I wanted to create. And therefore I created The Healthy Beet. It is a UGC marketing agency that helps promote healthy restaurants, businesses, and brands with aesthetic and vibrant content across social media.
Alright, so let’s move onto what keeps you busy professionally?
Now a days, there are many amazing and talented content creators who are naturally gifted and thrive on social media. But mastering the art of effective content creation is not easy, especially in such a competitive digital world.
However, what makes me unique from others is that I skillfully craft content with my own perspective and knowledge of the artistry of food. I have a huge advantage when it comes to creating food content because I went to culinary school where I learned about the importance of plate presentation.
I always tell people that “food is the only art form we can experience and enjoy with all of our sense – sight, smell, taste, touch, and hear.” And that’s what makes me passionate about the work I do!
I focus on capturing all 5 senses when creating food content, and then present it in a way that will make people want to try it.
If you had a friend visiting you, what are some of the local spots you’d want to take them around to?
I love this question! I’ve been waiting for my friend to visit me so I can show her all the places I love in Houston. I can literally write an entire book of the things we’d do and places we’d visit, but here are just a couple for the sake of time 🙂
I would make sure I take her to the Memorial Park so she could walk around the beautiful park and grab brunch at the Vibrant restaurant, which recently opened there. It is such a unique and peaceful experience.
I would also make sure to take her to one of my favorite restaurants in Houston…Pondicheri! I swear I tell everyone about this place. It is a health-conscious, nutrient-dense Indian cuisine restaurant. Every ingredient is mindfully selected for each dish and the food presentation is 10/10!
I would also take her to experience a Houston Ballet show! There’s just something about listening to the live orchestra and watching the amazing ballerinas on stage that is so soothing. It almost feels like you’re in a movie.
One last thing, I would take her to The POST so she can see Houston’s skyline at sunset. The view never gets old!
Who else deserves some credit and recognition?
There’s only one person who deserves credit and recognition in my story, and that amazing person is my mom! She sacrificed so much so that I can be where I am today.
My mom encouraged me to follow my dreams when no one else believed in me.
She motivated me to keep going every time I felt like giving up.
And she was my biggest cheerleader through the good and the bad times, and continues to cheer for me till this day.
