We had the good fortune of connecting with Carrie Colbert and we’ve shared our conversation below.

Hi Carrie, what do you attribute your success to?
I’ve been very blessed to be surrounded by great people from day one with Curate Capital, and moreso now as our company grows. We are a very lean and mean group, so it’s perhaps even more essential to truly love who you’re working with. I’m just grateful that our team members have chosen to come along with me in this journey and bring their skill sets that compliment my own so well.

Can you give our readers an introduction to your business? Maybe you can share a bit about what you do and what sets you apart from others?
Curate Capital was launched in 2020 after I saw how many female founders were underfunded and overachieving. In my own investing experience, taking a chance on women entrepreneurs had led to 10X returns, and I knew with a larger pool of capital I could take those results even further. Of course after we launched the pandemic hit, so we took our time with our initial fund raise, then oversubscribed by 50%! That’s still mind blowing to me that our team was able to achieve such staggering results on our first fund raise out of the gate. I’ve learned along the way that I have to trust them to do what they do best, so I can focus on my areas of expertise. Our story is one of resilience, but it’s also one of reliance on each other, and that sense of camaraderie has been a beautiful thing!

Any places to eat or things to do that you can share with our readers? If they have a friend visiting town, what are some spots they could take them to?
We just hosted our shareholders’ annual meeting at The Juliana, which I would highly recommend if you’re looking for a new event venue in town! It’s absolutely stunning, and the owner Ashley is a dear, lovely friend. We also love taking the kids to The Mad Potter for some crafting time, and La Griglia is one of our favorite Italian restaurants in town. Lastly, for a little shopping, you have to stop by one of our portfolio companies, Frances Valentine, to add some super bright pops of color to your wardrobe – my go-to look!

Who else deserves some credit and recognition?
My husband Mark has undoubtedly been one of my biggest cheerleaders since the day we met, and ever more so now that we have two little ones amongst our business endeavors. It’s not easy to be a working mom, but he shares so much of the household responsibilities so we can each thrive.
