We had the good fortune of connecting with Carrie Crossley and we’ve shared our conversation below.
Hi Carrie, can you walk us through the thought-process of starting your business?
I’ve always been very crafty (a talent I got from my mother) but never thought about doing it for a full time business. 2020 was a year full of heartache with everything our country had gone through… but the issues with racial inequality hit home the most. I felt like I needed to do more than sign petitions, repost/ share posts, talk about it, cry about it. So I began making equality shirts and donating the proceeds to NAACP racial justice and education fund. This was how I could use my voice. This was how I could show my boys how we can make change. I was the busiest I had ever been making shirt after shirt. The outpour of support was beyond anything I’d imagined. After that, people kept asking for more and more- and here we are a year later IN A FULL FLEDGED FULL TIME BUSINESS!!
Can you open up a bit about your work and career? We’re big fans and we’d love for our community to learn more about your work.
I make a very wide variety of art. Shirts, aprons, hoodies, tumblers, pens, keychains, door signs, door mats, wall art/decor and so much more. I custom make everything to the customers satisfaction. I really believe in customer service so i always go above and beyond to give the best products, always be kind and patient. I also take so much pride in packaging and presentation. I also deliver 🤗
I have taken many classes and lots and lots of hours put in on YouTube. I am ALWAYS learning, always trying out new things. I absolutely love making new things.
The lessons I have learned is more patience lol. My crafts take SO much patience and hours on end to make the perfect masterpiece.
I want the world to know how my brand started. I am a mama trying to lead an example for my boys to follow their dreams and do what they love. My business name “A Mama’s Silhouette” was created because my first favorite job is being a Mama, my second favorite is my crafting- my machine that started this all is a Silhouette brand. A Mama’s Silhouette. ❤️
Who else deserves some credit and recognition?
I want to first and foremost give my family the biggest shoutout. My husband has had to pick up some slack at home in order for me to grow this business and I am so thankful for his love and support. My 2 sons have been so patient and helpful as well. My mom, no words to describe how supportive she has been. From helping me with my sons, to helping me with my orders and deliveries. I couldn’t do this without her. And also my Dad. All the things I needed built to work more efficiently, he was right there with his drill and screws ready to go. I’m so thankful to have such an amazing family.
And last but not least my friends. They have been so supportive and this business would not be what it is without them. They were there from the beginning, ordering stuff from me when I was still in practicing stages. And then spreading the word to help me grow. So very grateful for them.
