We had the good fortune of connecting with Cary Dyer II and we’ve shared our conversation below.

Hi Cary, why did you pursue a creative career?
I pursued being a designer & a all round creative because it’s something that I have always been interested in. By my mother being into clothing and her managing a denim shop, to my grandmother making her children’s clothing  when they were younger, to father being a fashion model when he was my age, it’s cool that I’m doing what I do now. I started off by doing personal hand painted customs for myself such as jackets, Air force 1’s, and jeans. Then when I started going to Texas Southern university a lot of students there was liking the way that I dressed and wondered where I get my stuff from. when I told them that I customized most of the stuff I used to wear at the time it was up from there. So I started doing it more and more then started to get a little buzz on campus. But one night me and my sister was talking and she said I should take it to the next level and start taking it more serious and have a official release. Then after that conversation i did just that.

Please tell us more about your work. We’d love to hear what sets you apart from others, what you are most proud of or excited about. How did you get to where you are today professionally. Was it easy? If not, how did you overcome the challenges? What are the lessons you’ve learned along the way. What do you want the world to know about you or your brand and story?
What sets me apart from others is that I have my own aesthetic. Coming up I have never been someone to follow a trend of any type or try to dress or look like anyone else. I walk to the beat of my own drum and never been a follower. I even take that to my clothing brand & just how I go about doing things such as how I come up with designs, the inspiration I get when I’m in collection mode, and all the way down to the little things. Also how I got to where I am today is just being 100% myself & finding who I really am instead of following a crowd.

Something that I am excited about is my upcoming collection called ” GOOD F’N DAY “. I feel like this collection is something different versus the things that I have previously released but It is still true to myself & still coordinates with the brand.

If you had a friend visiting you, what are some of the local spots you’d want to take them around to?
Houston has a lot of places you can go to with that being going out in the Houston night life, or during the daytime. In the daytime I’ll first go get some good food from a place called ” Stuffed Wings ” near the third ward area. Then after I’ll go to some clothing stores such as Full Court, Petty Cash, Leopard lounge, and thirtft stores to find some good deals . and later on we would go to a place like kamp houston, or playground to get geeked up with the some freinds.

Who else deserves some credit and recognition?
I’ll like to give a shoutout to my mother & my sister. They have been by my side every step of the way with every decision that I have made. My sister & I are like a tag team for real, any idea that I have and mock up that I come up with we work together to bring it to life the best way possible.
