We had the good fortune of connecting with Chai and we’ve shared our conversation below.
Hi Chai, maybe we can start at the very start – the idea – how did you come up with the idea for your business?
Chai’s Healing Corner was literally MY healing corner before I chose to share my gifts with the world. I had a personal altar set up for when I wanted to do my “work”, whether it was meditating, breathing exercises, yoga, journaling, reading my own tarot, smudging, etc. Going to “lay it on the altar” was real for me. I would have friends come over and they would compliment how good it felt in my house and specifically around my altar space. I had one to really confide in me during a very rough time in her life and she requested a tarot reading, which I obliged.. through that experience, I was able to help provide her guidance to get herself out of the rut she’d been in for a while. I experienced a loss late 2018 and I was really put to the test to “love myself back to life”, so I really delve deep into my own healing corner experience. Soon I began to realize that selfcare is not a luxury, but rather a necessity to our healing journey. I started taking a little extra care of myself in the mirror each day. The baths.. with the little extra sprinkle sprinkle… I love a good spirit cleansing bath! My friends really started to take notice to the “extra” that I was doing, how it was affecting me and took interest to know more. I would make slight natural suggestions for them to try. The baths were very big for Chai’s Healing Corner.. who wouldn’t want to splash around in a bath filled with herbs and flowers infused with the greatest intentions? I took an interest in natural skincare regimens which later lead me to taking herbalist courses and learning more about Earth’s Medicine. In September 2020 Chai’s Healing Corner was born.
Please tell us more about your work. We’d love to hear what sets you apart from others, what you are most proud of or excited about. How did you get to where you are today professionally. Was it easy? If not, how did you overcome the challenges? What are the lessons you’ve learned along the way. What do you want the world to know about you or your brand and story?
Aside from being a retired Makeup Artist and Holistic Artisan, in my corporate role I am a Travel Counselor for a private sector. On my day to day, I speak to many different people from all over the world and I help them package together travel plans; air, hotel and car rentals. Nothing worth having ever comes easily. This was a complete career pivot for myself. It was very challenging to completely nose dive into the world of travel. I just took one day at a time, with one foot in front of the other.. like most people should, instead of becoming overwhelmed. I soon started to get recognitions at work and requested for pilot programs for new software and invited to provide support for my colleagues should they not understand certain processes. I learned that learning is always your fulltime job, primarily.. the moment you cut yourself off from being a student willing to learn, then you have already failed. I think what sets me apart from most is being a multifaceted individual with the ability to manage multiple roles effectively.. and be a beast at every last one of them.
Let’s say your best friend was visiting the area and you wanted to show them the best time ever. Where would you take them? Give us a little itinerary – say it was a week long trip, where would you eat, drink, visit, hang out, etc.
Well, since my last interview with you all, I have relocated to Highpoint, NC. I would have to say if my Bestie were visiting from out of town for a week.. I’d take them to Mike’s Vegan Grille for some BOMB VEGAN COOKOUT STYLE CUISINE in Greensboro, NC.. he also just opened one up in Charlotte, NC. The best drinks I’ve had and probably the most expensive was a Tequila Sunrise at ROAR in Winston Salem, NC. ROAR is like a food hall, arcade, bar scene… definitely a vibe! If you’re into thrills and a good dip in the summer time.. you absolutely have to visit Carrigan Farms Water Quarry in Mooresville, NC. If we wanna go hang out, I’d definitely take Bestie to Limelight in Greensboro, NC.. they have themed Sunday nights for the LGBTQ community; the music is great, the vibes are A1 and the drinks are STRONG, Chile!
Who else deserves some credit and recognition?
I definitely want to give a shoutout to Queen Afua for creating “Sacred Woman”, a text spoken on Ancient African Diasporic various healing modalities for womb regeneration.. I was apart of a “womb healing circle” of women all looking to heal their traumas.. which we learned our traumas are housed in our womb space and to heal we must make room. We all read and became familiar with this text, which helped to direct us towards regeneration. We met early virtually in the rising for meditations and readings and breathing exercises. We met up once a month for in person fellowship. We followed recipes and cleanses specifically outlined in the text. We each took on our own “gateway” from the text and mine was “Sacred Beauty”. I was already heavily involved in the makeup industry, as a makeup artist.. my makeup studio was a sanctuary for my clients back then as well. Once I explored more of the naturalist way to beauty, everything began to come together and I realized I was being prepared for Chai’s Healing Corner before I even knew she would come to life. I love making women feel good about themselves and revieling their inner “baddie”.
