We had the good fortune of connecting with Charlene Jones and we’ve shared our conversation below.

Hi Charlene, what was your thought process behind starting your own business?
Photography started off as a hobby for me. I had no intentions of it becoming a business. It literally just happened. I went from photographing what I enjoyed at the time for free and the fun of it to being paid for my work. After that things started to fall in place according to what was needed per client. Before I knew it, my hobby was now a business.

Alright, so let’s move onto what keeps you busy professionally?
I am a Fine Art Portraiture Photographer. My passion is creating photography that people see as art. Living in a digital world is challenging because a lot of people want things to be easy to share and quickly. However, I have realized that at the end of the day we are all tangible people. We all like to have something we can touch and hold in our hands. For that reason I pride myself on creating wall art for clients and encourage them to view our sessions as the opportunity to create a portrait heirloom that can be passed down to the future generation of their family. To have a grandchild see their grandmother or grandfather in artful portraits is something to desire. To look at the wall in your living space and see your family in a poetic photographic way creates a feeling of appreciation. My goal in my work is to always shoot for the emotion first and the image follows. I have learned a lot since I started doing professional photography. One of the lessons that I learned, that use to scare me, was rebranding. I have rebranded so many times and I am still rebranding. However, I understand now there is nothing wrong with rebranding. I have discovered that each time I rebrand I am just perfecting and getting to the root of my passion. My brand now mostly focuses on creating black and white wall art images. Black and white goes with everything and although I will edit in color from time to time, my love is black and white imagery. I am mostly excited about my growth in confidence in myself in being true to what I love and enjoy. Creating instead of conforming to what I think may get me the most likes or most money is freeing. The truth is when you follow your passion the rest will eventually follow. It may happen in a short time or it may be a while before you see it…either way it will happen when it happens. I love shooting all type of photography. My favorite type of photography is fine art portraiture and boudoir. However I do other types as well just now my goal is to do them in a way that my clients appreciate hanging in their home as wall art.
