Hi Charnessa “Lashell”, what was your thought process behind starting your own business?
When I started Face By LashellBee, LLC, it wasn’t a planned venture; it was truly an orchestration by God. This business emerged as a sanctuary for healing after I left an abusive relationship, both verbally and physically.

The idea of pursuing makeup artistry seriously was further solidified by close friends who not only recognized but also encouraged what they saw as God’s plan for me. Soon after, in 2016, I began to legitimize Face By LashellBee, LLC. It felt more like fun than work as I created the logo, designed the website, established a price list, and drafted policies.

My business quickly took off in my hometown of Cleveland, Mississippi. I was incredibly blessed to serve not only clients within my community but also individuals of celebrity status. By 2020, I was ready for a new chapter and decided to move to Houston, Texas. Since then, Houston has been a profound blessing, enriching both my business and my personal life. I continue to pray for continued growth and success here, as God sees fit.

What should our readers know about your business?
At Face By LashellBee, LLC, my approach to makeup artistry goes beyond just applying cosmetics; it’s about celebrating and enhancing the unique beauty of each individual. I pride myself on bringing out the features that truly make my clients beautiful, ensuring every person in my chair feels like a celebrity. This personalized treatment is a cornerstone of my business, and I hold my clients to the same high expectations for respect and professionalism that I uphold for myself.

My journey to where I am today as a successful makeup artist has been built on the principle of being a forever student. I’ve learned that the beauty industry is constantly evolving, and I refuse to let the “hype” around current trends deter me from consistently growing and improving my craft. This commitment to continuous learning is what allows me to deliver exceptional results and stay ahead in a competitive field.

Navigating Challenges as an Entrepreneur
Running Face By LashellBee, LLC is not without its challenges, especially since I balance it with my full-time career as a teacher. Managing a business part-time requires significant dedication and strategic planning.

One of the primary challenges I’ve faced is protecting my business from those who sought to scam, and ensuring my policies and practices safeguarded both myself and my valued clients. To overcome this, I took proactive steps, including constructing a robust website that allows me to effectively monitor my clientele. I also meticulously crafted clear and sound policies and committed to maintaining consistent business practices. These measures have been crucial in creating a secure and trustworthy environment for everyone involved with Face By LashellBee..

If you had a friend visiting you, what are some of the local spots you’d want to take them around to?
If I had a friend visiting Houston, Texas, our itinerary would definitely include a culinary tour showcasing some of the city’s gems, starting with a must-visit:

For an exceptional dining experience, we’d head to Davis Street, a remarkable Black-owned restaurant situated in the heart of the city. It’s not just about the food; the place is aesthetically pleasing, the cuisine is consistently excellent, and their drinks are always of the highest quality.

For some adult fun, delicious food, and great R&B vibes, we’d absolutely check out Society Kitchen and Kocktails. It’s the perfect spot for a lively evening out.

And for a taste of authentic Southern home cooking, our next stop would be Esther’s Cajun Cafe & Soul Food. Beyond the incredibly fulfilling meals, the staff is always wonderfully welcoming, and you can often catch live music, making it a great spot for both adult and family enjoyment.
