We had the good fortune of connecting with Chassidy Reff and we’ve shared our conversation below.

Hi Chassidy, we’d love to hear about how you approach risk and risk-taking
As an Independent Artist I have to take risk all the time. Before attending Texas Southern I knew I wanted to do nothing but sing and song-write and make music people could relate to. When I told family and friends I wanted to go to school for music I kept hearing negative feedback like “You’re not going to make money in that field” “What if you don’t make it” “You’re not going to make to it” “Just do something else”, I changed my mind with the quickness and did social work which I hated and after seeing I should have went with my first mind I prayed about what God wanted me to do and immediately switched back to music. From then it was a hard road, but it was a road I enjoyed, even though going to school for music was overwhelming and different from what I thought it would be I was still happy to finally do something that is a passion for me. I often wonder everyday will people love my music, will people love the different things I do with my music, will they love the really weird real me, and thinking back on those questions I honestly don’t care what anyone has to say, because I put hard work into what I do and I sacrificed a lot to get where I am today.

Alright, so let’s move onto what keeps you busy professionally?
What sets me apart from everyone in the industry is that I’m creative in all aspects in my life, I’m real, and I have always been different and accepted that, I just don’t do what these other girls do, it definitely shows through my music, through my personality, and through the way I live my life. I’m most proud and excited about me getting my first single out all with the help of one of my good friends Tylou, it was not an easy task I struggled to even know where to start it took me literally 2 years a little bit of crying and hard work to get to where I am now. And it’s all worth it, because God put the right person in place to show me the first step and from there I took off with getting my song out on all platforms. I overcame the challenges by investing in myself and not giving up on the days I felt I wanted to, music literally takes away every paycheck that I have, but thats something I don’t mind. The lesson learned for me is “To get to the Glory you have to share the suffering” and although I have suffered a lot I smile through my pain, say a pray, and keep going. I put too much into myself to let God down, a gift ain’t nothing if you not gone use it. What I want the world to know about my brand is that I put my best foot forward and I push everyday to make something out of my life after all I’m not living this life just for me I live my life for those who have been through and is afraid to tell their story.

Let’s say your best friend was visiting the area and you wanted to show them the best time ever. Where would you take them? Give us a little itinerary – say it was a week long trip, where would you eat, drink, visit, hang out, etc.
My ideal best friend date would probably be a museum, and going to a kick back karaoke night. I’d take them out for seafood, drink a few cokes and enjoy a nice green park scenery. I’m also into exploring different cultures, and learning and trying new things. The most interesting things are things that you have never done before, living your life like it’s your last and appreciating life for what it is. I love a peaceful setting so my typical day would be going to the Japanese Garden and enjoy the sight, sit there for hours on end and writing until my fingers get sore.

The Shoutout series is all about recognizing that our success and where we are in life is at least somewhat thanks to the efforts, support, mentorship, love and encouragement of others. So is there someone that you want to dedicate your shoutout to?
I dedicate this Shoutout to Christ, my lovely mother, my baby brother Aj, and my talented music brothers Dr.duessofficial. Why, because throughout my life nobody believed in me the way that they believed in me and when I needed a push they were my push. And they stood behind me 100 percent. I just want to Thank you for believing in me and sticking by me.
