We had the good fortune of connecting with Chaun Vaughn and we’ve shared our conversation below.
Hi Chaun, we’d love to hear more about how you thought about starting your own business?
It all started with a genuine belief in the power of great leadership. Having been in various leadership roles myself throughout my career, I couldn’t ignore the common struggles and pressures faced by teams everywhere. It became clear to me that investing in leadership development could be a game-changer for both individuals and businesses. Back then(2016), when I officially launched Vaughn Media, LLC, my goal was simple. Help leaders become better at what they do and create a healthier work-life balance for everyone involved. As my company grew, I realized there was so much more I could do. So I created an online training program that gives my clients the freedom to learn and grow on their own terms. This allows me to now follow my passion for storytelling by expanding into online shows and eventually short films. It’s all about impact and innovation.
Can you give our readers an introduction to your business? Maybe you can share a bit about what you do and what sets you apart from others?
At Vaughn Media, LLC, I’m all about shaking things up! I like to look at my business as not your average company. Yes, I’m all about leadership and improving one’s myself, but I also pride myself on being innovative and coming up with content that will impact the masses.
I believe in getting personal, understanding what my clients need, and delivering something that’s truly tailored to them.
Everything isn’t always peaches and cream. I have definitely had my fair share of challenges, from fierce competition to keeping up with the latest tech trends. As hard as running your own business is due to having to wear many, many hats, I’ve never been one to back down from a challenge. I’ve hustled, I’ve gotten creative, and I’ve come out on top.
One thing I’ve learned along the way is to stay true to who you are. Keep your eyes on the prize and don’t let anyone dull your sparkle.
I am wholeheartedly about making waves, making a difference, and having a damn good time doing it! Life is short, so do the work, invest in yourself, and definitely enjoy the ride.
If you had a friend visiting you, what are some of the local spots you’d want to take them around to?
If my best friend was coming to Houston for a week, I’d make sure she’d have the time of her life while supporting some amazing businesses in the area.
Day 1: Start the week off with breakfast at The Breakfast Klub, because who can resist those wings and waffles? Then we’ll head over to the Houston Museum of African American Culture to dive into some history and culture. My BF loves history.
Day 2: Visit The African American Library at the Gregory School, followed by a drive through Third Ward and then end the evening at Bungalow, an upscale restaurant downtown.
Day 3: We’ll start with lunch at Mo’ Better Brews, and then, spend the afternoon chilling at Emancipation Park, soaking up the sun and enjoying some live music if there is someone scheduled.
Day 4: I love art so we most definitely will have to hit up The Gite Gallery.
Day 5: You can’t come to Houston and not have BBQ! Triple J’s BBQ is a must. We’ll dig into some ribs and brisket before heading downtown for a stroll.
Day 6: For our final full day, let’s indulge in some fine dining at Trez Bistro and Wine Bar. We’ll treat ourselves to a gourmet meal paired with the perfect glass of wine.
Day 7: For her last night in town, we can dine that evening at Davis Street and then head to Off the Record and enjoy some great music and a cocktail or two.
Shoutout is all about shouting out others who you feel deserve additional recognition and exposure. Who would you like to shoutout?
I want to take a moment to give a heartfelt shout-out to Dreams Unleashed She Networks, a non-profit membership organization that’s truly making waves in the world. Empowering and developing young ladies holistically for success is nothing short of inspiring. They’re shaping the next generation of strong, confident women through their dedication to promoting community service, business & social skills, mental health stability, and workforce development.
I’ve had the privilege of witnessing firsthand the incredible impact that this sisterhood of forward-thinking women has had on me and the young girls they serve. Their dedication to uplifting each other and those around them is simply remarkable.
I also want to acknowledge two incredible women who have played an instrumental role in shaping who I am today, my mother, Gwendolyn Petteway Anderson, and my sister, Misha McClure. Without their love, guidance, and support, I wouldn’t be the woman I am today. They’ve been my rock, my cheerleaders, and my biggest supporters, and I am eternally grateful for their presence in my life.
