We had the good fortune of connecting with Chelsa King-Carr and we’ve shared our conversation below.

Hi Chelsa, we’d love to hear more about how you thought about starting your own business?
I have always had a love for photography since I was young. After college and after starting my first full time well paying job Invested in my first camera and lens. My goal was and continues to be, capturing authentic moments and memories that we can revisit. Ask any mother or grandmother out there, there is noting like pulling out old photo books when the family is together for the holidays, or a new addition to the family that must be showed the most embarrassing photos of that persons significant other in their youth.

Can you give our readers an introduction to your business? Maybe you can share a bit about what you do and what sets you apart from others?
The inspiration for my business name, Crowned by CK, lies within my madden name, King. The entire concept is fitting with my personal ethics because I want every person in my life to feel and be treated like royalty. My clients get that royal experience every time we work together, and that’s what sets me apart. My personality and conversation techniques normally eases the tension that most people feel when stepping in front of a camera. I have made it to this stage in my business from the support of others, word of mouth, referrals, and loyal clients. COVID and moving to a new state made me reevaluate my business model and pivot in order to continue to thrive. It has been difficult to justify some of the things that I have/haven’t purchased for my business because good equipment is expensive but worth it ultimately. Along the way I have learned to be flexible and find innovative methods to getting what I need and reaching goals but what I know for sure is that we all need people. I want the world to know that this is only the beginning for Crowned, every year I get better and surprise myself. Photography is just phase one for my brand and business plan, I’m praying hard on the big dreams and vision that God has shown me for my life.

If you had a friend visiting you, what are some of the local spots you’d want to take them around to?
Austin has so much to offer so this is a tough one but I think I would take the tourist in my own city route. We would hit the popular areas of the city starting in North Austin. We would have to shop at the Domain, then experience the vibes of punch bowl social, culinary dropout and the night life on Rock Rose. Since there are breweries everywhere we would one in every direction, while finding the most popular murals for photo ops! It wouldn’t be a trip to Austin without experiencing nature so a day on the lake so hello Lake Travis and devils cove. A quick hike up Mt. Bonnell and a drive over to see the Pennybacker Bridge at sunset is a must. Downtown’s night life is reserved for the weekend. The famous 6th street and Rainey Street close out the visit in the most epic and weird way ATX style. Brunch picnic in Zilker Park before concluding the trip would be the cherry on top of a beautiful visit.    Shoutout is all about shouting out others who you feel deserve additional recognition and exposure. Who would you like to shoutout?
I have a tribe of family and friends that will forever be my saving grace. Those people were the first to say yes in my very humble beginnings when I was learning how to operate my first camera and understand how to edit. To this day, they still say yes to being models for marketing items, promotions, and sometimes even content for my website and social media accounts. I have a friend and fellow creative who helped open so many doors for me in a major growth phase in my photography journey. She is my brutally honest voice of reason, website wordsmith, brainstorm bestie, and my photography muse, she literally is always down for a photoshoot. So if I had to choose just one I would shoutout my friend Shalisa Roland follow her on Instagram at shalisaaaa_ for all things above average, below bougie.
