We had the good fortune of connecting with Chyna Hunt and we’ve shared our conversation below.

Hi Chyna, how do you think about risk?
Risk taking is absolutely necessary, especially if you’re an entrepreneur. I took one of the biggest risks of my life in August 2019 by quitting my corporate job of 13 years, to pursue entrepreneurship full-time. I simply made a decision to live my life on my own terms. Was I scared TO DEATH when I pressed send on my resignation email? HECK YEA! But I walked through my fear and DID IT ANYWAY. Now, I’m successfully creating cake art for a living and I haven’t looked back since. That’s the funny thing about taking risks. You are going to be scared & nervous, but you have to walk through that fear into your greatness.

Alright, so let’s move onto what keeps you busy professionally?
I absolutely love creating cake art. The skill it takes to turn flour, eggs, & sugar, into a work of art makes me excited! It’s both fun & work, nerve-wracking & satisfying. I would describe my style a colorful, bright, and playful. Anyone who chooses to become a full-time artist is going to face challenges. I’m no different. Is it easy? No. People will criticize you for not having a “real job”, pass out negativity and unwarranted advice. But, I continue to stay determined, open-minded, and diligent in the pursuit of my dreams. I want the world to know that my brand, Chyna B’s Sweets, is serious about cake! We provide a luxury product that not only looks amazing, but also tastes delicious!

Any great local spots you’d like to shoutout?
In a pre-Corona world, I’d take my bestie right over to Phil & Dereks for brunch, mimosas, and jazz. Then we’d hit up Discovery Green to “walk off” some of that good food. We’d finish our night sipping cocktails poolside at the Marriot Marquis Houston. The next day we’re having a house party! Yes, friends, barbeque, and drinks on the deck. The rest of our week would be filled with massages, spa treatments, and laughs.

Shoutout is all about shouting out others who you feel deserve additional recognition and exposure. Who would you like to shoutout?
My son, boyfriend, and stepmom have been instrumental in pushing me to grow. My extended family has also supported my business and continue to keep me lifted and encouraged.
