We had the good fortune of connecting with Cia Jaye and we’ve shared our conversation below.

Hi Cia, we’d love to hear about how you approach risk and risk-taking
Growing up I wasn’t a risk taker at all. I always played it safe because I wanted every decision I made to be perfect, but this industry taught me playing it safe will only get you so far. I actually learned that from one of my very first auditions which was in high school for a school play. I remember as I’m reading the lines I noticed the character was very angry and I was wondering to myself am I suppose to be yelling in this scene or just showcasing an attitude? I played it safe because I didn’t want to be “too loud” or scare off my theater teacher for yelling. Unfortunately, I didn’t get the part and it went to the girl that got cast in almost every play my school had. I always wondered why they always cast this same girl for the plays. Now reflecting back, it’s because she wasn’t scared to take risks and didn’t cared what anyone thought of her acting. I use to be scared to make mistakes because I cared about what others would think or say, but I was tired of asking myself those “what if” questions. Remembering that experience helped me book a role in a film that had similar characteristics of the character I auditioned for in high school. During my audition for the film the director told me I did really good but wanted me to do the scene again. I knew at that moment if I didn’t take the risk of changing my tone and yell with anger and emotions that someone like the girl from high school will get the part. Safe to say I booked it.

Can you open up a bit about your work and career? We’re big fans and we’d love for our community to learn more about your work.
I learned that it’s okay not to always have everything figured out. I wanted to be so many things growing up. I wanted to be a gymnast, veterinarian, model, astronaut, teacher so many different things. I always thought my life had to be perfect and my pathway had to be a straight line. But life will never be a straight line and it will always have bumps on the road. But being an actor made me realize I can be anything I wanted. Pursuing in this field is not easy but I’m proud for not sticking myself in one box .

If you had a friend visiting you, what are some of the local spots you’d want to take them around to?
One thing about Houston is that it’s one of the most diverse cities. There’s so many things to do that it’s difficult to favor one particular spot. I will say if you like to do out door events like me, then Discovery Green would be nice to go. Being in the beautiful gardens and admiring the art installations or having a chance to listen to live music and breathing the fresh air during yoga classes will make your week relaxing.

Who else deserves some credit and recognition?
Everyone. I’m thankful for every soul I’ve came across that taught me lessons and gave me experiences. I wouldn’t be who I am today if it wasn’t for the people around me or the things that happened to me. Shoutout to my spirit guides and intuition that led me to the right decision in my journey.
