We had the good fortune of connecting with Citlaly Rodriguez and we’ve shared our conversation below.

Hi Citlaly, can you tell us more about your background and the role it’s played in shaping who you are today?
I was born in Guerrero, Mexico and currently live in a small town outside Houston named Porter. I entered the US when I was 8 years old and although it hasn’t been easy living in a foreign country, I am forever grateful for the doors that have opened for me throughout the years such as running a business.
Just like a lot of people out there, I didn’t have the best childhood experience as I would’ve liked but everything I went through shaped me into the woman I am slowly becoming. I have learned to never give up and keep pushing till you get where you want to be.

Let’s talk shop? Tell us more about your career, what can you share with our community?
Well being a florist is honestly challenging! At first I thought it would be a piece of cake until I found myself spending 4 hours making a ramo buchon. Not to mention the amount of creativity you need to have to put some of the most beautiful arrangements together AND the amount of muscle that is required for this job! it feels like I’m lifting weights while I try to carry a 100 rose bouquet or a bloom box.

Other than that it is amazing because I get to learn so much about flowers and you just understand the flower industry to a different level and the feeling you get after creating something stunning and delivering it to a client is unexplainable. It’s incredible how flowers can literally brighten up someone’s day.

The Shoutout series is all about recognizing that our success and where we are in life is at least somewhat thanks to the efforts, support, mentorship, love and encouragement of others. So is there someone that you want to dedicate your shoutout to?
It definitely wouldn’t have been possible without the help of my mom and my sisters. For special dates such as Valentines and Mother’s Day the flower shop is busy all week and we receive many orders and my sister helps me all week to prep and be ready to roll. Not to mention my sister has so much creativity and shes super talented and always helps me find the way to make things work.
