We had the good fortune of connecting with CJ Joiner and we’ve shared our conversation below.

Hi CJ, what is the most important factor behind your success?
Not only is REV The Multifamily Leasing Company a brand new business, but REV is also a brand new concept not just in the Multifamily world, but also in the business world. We’re an innovative team of forward thinkers with a unique combination of business backgrounds from multi-family ownership to developers, teachers, engineers, managers, leasing directors, and entrepreneurs. Our combined industry knowledge at REV™ offers an advanced perspective on problem-solving and offering premiere leasing services with exceptional results. The most important factor behind my success was the inspiration REV’s Co-Founding Principal, President, and CEO Peter Roisman brought to the table during my early discussions prior to my joining REV in my role. The thought of returning to a Monday-Friday wasn’t something I ever saw coming back to my day to day after experiencing the freedom of being a Realtor. It took something groundbreaking, something that I could help build from the ground up to inspire me and inspire the successes I’ve been able to achieve individually at REV along with the perfectly position players we have at REV.

Alright, so for those in our community who might not be familiar with your business, can you tell us more?
In what is an established industry, REV The Multifamily Leasing Company is bringing disruption to the world of Multifamily. Instead of being a quick fix to the world of property management, we are a long-term solution for multifamily asset owners. We go above the status quo because instead of just appeasing assets owners with high occupancy, we deliver high-performance leasing which in turn delivers the money that the status quo doesn’t deliver. In essence, we create Incremental Value for Multifamily Owners through high-performance leasing. Our business has evolved over time and will continue to evolve and gain moment as we become an influential and welcomed disruption. At my age, I thought I was done achieving something bigger and better than myself. The chance for me to have a great impact and influence the direction REV takes means more to me than any other role I’ve had in my adult tenure. (lol) Everyone talks about how people make all of the difference in a company’s success. I’m here to say, it’s the absolute truth. Over time, we’ve recruited the right players and championed the right people to take our company from the minor leagues to the major league franchise association.

Let’s say your best friend was visiting the area and you wanted to show them the best time ever. Where would you take them? Give us a little itinerary – say it was a week long trip, where would you eat, drink, visit, hang out, etc.
Before moving to Houston, I was living in southern California. To my surprise and to many of my friends’ shock throughout the United States, I fell in love with Houston. Besides its diversity, I love having everything I love and want right at my fingertips. As an avid sports fan, I have the Astros, Rockets, Texans, and Dynamo at my disposal when in season. Sometimes we wish certain seasons could go longer but welcome to the world of professional sports. I can also catch the Houston Symphony, a broadway show, beloved authors, and the Houston Ballet. One of the most convenient parts of most of these sites being located downtown is I would probably start the evening or day at Batanga Houston. What better place to enjoy international flavored tapas selections before catching a show or ballgame. I never thought I’d be so interested in museums and the ever-changing installations the Museums bring to our city. Beyond the arts and sports, I love the outdoor spaces our city has to offer in the form of Buffalo Bayou Park and Memorial Park. I can walk my pups, hit the driving range, ride my bike, run, or just go for a walk with friends. To all of my friends who thought I was crazy for falling in love with Houston, come visit me!!!

Shoutout is all about shouting out others who you feel deserve additional recognition and exposure. Who would you like to shoutout?
There are a few factors at play here. To this day, I will always be more than grateful for my parent’s unwavering support to get me through this thing called life. Roger and Anna will always be my support and strength. The point at which REV came into my life was very serendipitous. Before REV and still, to this day, I battle bipolar depression. It took my parent’s education and understanding to help me see the other side of the rainbow. Let’s be real, without them I wouldn’t realize the rainbow even existed. When Gerri Bettencourt and Peter Roisman, two of REV’s cofounders saw a fighter in me that I didn’t even know existed, my transition back into the traditional world of work became a game-changer for me. Our company motto is “Consistently Excellent.” Since September 2021, this is what I strive for. I consistently receive reminders or even a swift kick in the butt to be reminded that I am worthy and that it is ok for me to lose a battle from time to time. At the end of the day, thanks to my never-ending support system, I am always winning the war.
