Meet Clarissa Ortiz

We had the good fortune of connecting with Clarissa Ortiz and we’ve shared our conversation below.
Hi Clarissa, what habits do you feel play an important role in your life?
Consistency was a major driving force for us succeeding. When I decided I wanted to start my business I told myself everyday day I would do something intentional to promote my business. Earlier in our development some days we would spend our time practicing our craft, listening to podcasts on business development, women in business, balloon artistry. Another driving force that shifted my focus was to be comfortable calling myself and identifying myself as an artist and business owner. Overcoming imposter syndrome and re wiring myself to trust my skills and development lead to my persistence. Lastly I am my biggest competitor every job was constantly looking to be better than my own self. The satisfaction of creating something and watching it get better each time brings me so much joy. Each job since my first we have always given it our best . Constantly learning and building. Do everything 100% heart and power. Then there can be no limit.

Let’s talk shop? Tell us more about your career, what can you share with our community?
I have been a nurse for 15 years. I always loved being challenged and love learning. Currently I am a Cardiology’s Program Manager at UTMB Clear Lake Campus. I found passion in program development through my career journey. The ability to help several patients through education and process improvement brings me joy and satisfaction . It’s an unwavering pride of improving the community I live in. Prior to this role I worked as a transplant coordinator for 9 years most recently helping develop the pediatric heart transplant program in the medical center in 2021. My biggest challenge has always been my self doubt. I am working on owning my space and felling deserving of the work I have accomplished. I want to continue my journey in healthcare and continue to refine my leadership skills. I am doing this by working with other powerful women closely and being authentic and transparent in my development so I can learn and feel good about where I am and where I want to go.

If you had a friend visiting you, what are some of the local spots you’d want to take them around to?
My favorite spots – the museum district is nice to spend the day and Herman Park. Local in clear lake area going to chicken and pickle or jimmy changas is always a great place to take the kids. In the evening time we enjoy checking out a nice restaurant in Houston. We always try a new one since so many we never get bored. A favorite is Street Kitchen in eado or Rumi in the Galleria area. As you can see we like a variety of food.

The Shoutout series is all about recognizing that our success and where we are in life is at least somewhat thanks to the efforts, support, mentorship, love and encouragement of others. So is there someone that you want to dedicate your shoutout to?
This list will be long it’s hard to dedicate a life of inspiration. I have been surrounded by powerful women my entire life. My mother partner in business always taught me to give 100% effort in everything I do. In nursing from my first preceptor Melinda helped me develop as a strong nurse. Watching her succeed and move into leadership as a minority gave me strength to peruse my dreams within the healthcare care. My friends who have developed small businesses, my sisters, Many other women have crossed my path and giving me a pebble that has developed my overall strength. So I dedicate my work to all the beautiful empowering women I have been blessed to learn from.
