We had the good fortune of connecting with Cocoa Butter Queen and we’ve shared our conversation below.
Hi Cocoa Butter, how does your business contribute to your community and make a difference to others?
I have a big heart for service and community building is one of the main pillars of Cocoa Butter Queen Cosmetics. So far We’ve started off with a bi-weekly community clean up. We have also been doing our best to sustain those that have chose to fight against injustice by providing water, and care packages. We are now in the process of creating survival programs through community funds in order to supply those in need with the basic necessities for survival in these unsure times. We are now in the process of creating funding and accepting donations for homeless hygiene bags to help do our part in making sure that no one gets left behind in our communities.
What should our readers know about your business?
I am definitely growing more and more as a CEO each day. Hoping inspire someone else to never give up on their own dreams, goals, and ambitions. I am constantly learning and taking classes in my field the people are becoming more aware and conscious of the things they allow in their hair and body which makes me even more excited to create non-toxic, chemical free products that the world will enjoy and want more of. The possibilities of natural hair and skin care are proving to be limitless each and every single day. I got where I am today just by simple paying attention to the growing world around me, making sure I am alining myself with opportunities that are for me and myself only. I wake up everyday with a humble and grateful spirit just to be alive and filled with excitement to learn more about my craft. How I can create something that will give someone the confidence they need to love themselves and feel beautiful inside and out. I over come challenges every single day, but I keep constant reminders around myself that motivate me to continue on with my brand being who I am while also producing quality hair and skin care for those who choose Cocoa Butter Queen every day. That is something I never take for granted because there are lots of other brands people could choose from, the fact that I am constantly building a loyal clientele because they love and appreciate my products is an amazing feeling I never want to loose.
Any places to eat or things to do that you can share with our readers? If they have a friend visiting town, what are some spots they could take them to?
My favorite thing to do is take my friends on tours around my city and where I grew up in Stop 6 Fort Worth. Most people don’t realize that the city is much more than horses in the middle of the road. Stop 6 is filled with so much history and heritage it’s hard not to talk about. The very first place we would go is Dunbar high school and I would tell her about the legendary Coach Hughes and the Flying Wildcats and all the basketball victories they brought back home to the to Stop 6 community. Then I would take her to the first place I ever lived 5100 Ave G, and explain how my mother use to wake me up on Saturday mornings and place the speaker in on the window, turn on some ol Skool music and wake me up to wash, and condition my hair. Then we would go on the porch and talk to the neighbors as she greased my scalp and twisted my hair as the music plays in the background. Which is ultimately the foundation being set to what is now Cocoa Butter Queen Cosmetics.
The Shoutout series is all about recognizing that our success and where we are in life is at least somewhat thanks to the efforts, support, mentorship, love and encouragement of others. So is there someone that you want to dedicate your shoutout to?
F.R.E.S.H Project Houston and the Kicking It with Queen O have definitely been 2 brands/organizations that have truly been inspirational in helping not just me but their followers and the people around them get through these days of uncertainty spreading a little light on the world. Also motivating me to stay in the fight and keep my own light shinning.
