We had the good fortune of connecting with Colby Wilson and we’ve shared our conversation below.

Hi Colby, is there something that you feel is most responsible for your success?
The most important factor behind my brand is consistent quality assurance. Social media algorithms can be fickle and challenging to understand and trends come and go. But, a high quality experience /high quality content does not go out of style. I focus on creating timeless content that is meaningful and culturally responsive.

Alright, so let’s move onto what keeps you busy professionally?
Dynasty Creatives is an arts firm; offering services in program management and artistic development. As a Creative Director, I work with clients who are seeking a stylist or brand enhancement. I also work with singers who need help fine-tuning their artistry. Dynasty Creatives is‌ ‌the‌ ‌manifestation‌ ‌of‌ ‌all‌ ‌the‌ ‌things‌ ‌I‌ ‌am‌ ‌passionate‌ ‌about;‌ ‌artistic‌ ‌programming,‌ ‌effective‌ ‌administration,‌ ‌relevant‌ ‌education,‌ ‌strategic‌ ‌organizing‌ ‌and‌ ‌planning,‌ ‌and‌ ‌a‌ ‌platform‌ ‌to‌ ‌engage‌ ‌the‌ ‌community.‌ ‌This artistic work has been the story of my life!‌ I‌ ‌spent‌ ‌my‌ ‌childhood‌ ‌and‌ ‌young‌ ‌adult‌ ‌life‌ ‌performing‌ ‌as‌ ‌a‌ ‌singer,‌ ‌actor,‌ ‌and‌ ‌model.‌ ‌As‌ ‌a‌ ‌teenager,‌ ‌my‌ ‌interests‌ ‌of‌ ‌being‌ ‌on‌ ‌stage,‌ ‌shifted‌ ‌and‌ ‌I‌ ‌discovered‌ ‌that‌ ‌I‌ ‌was‌ ‌more‌ ‌interested‌ ‌in‌ ‌teaching,‌ ‌programming‌ ‌and‌ ‌the‌ ‌management‌ ‌part‌ ‌of‌ ‌the‌ ‌creative‌ ‌process.‌ ‌Taking a concept and watching it build out and grow into a reality is what I enjoy the most! The biggest challenge right now is finding ways to engage people during a pandemic. My work is rooted in providing services, so uncovering clever ways to interact while social distancing has been interesting! Thankfully for me, people always want to look and sound good, so I have been able to successfully engage new clients. I am most proud of my business because my biggest goal is not to make the most money everytime I work with a client, but to do everything I can to supersede the client’s expectation and make them feel on top of the world. The thing that makes me different is that I take the time to get to know each client and all the little details that makes them unique in an effort to consistently provide a personalized memorable experience. This is more than just making money for me, it’s my ministry, my soul work… life’s purpose.

Let’s say your best friend was visiting the area and you wanted to show them the best time ever. Where would you take them? Give us a little itinerary – say it was a week long trip, where would you eat, drink, visit, hang out, etc.

Sunday
I would start by taking them to MKT for brunch and from there, we would walk over to Discovery Green. After Discovery Green, we would go to East Downtown to check out the murals and public art. Next we would to the corner of Griggs and Telephone Rd. My favorite taco truck is there- ¡Que Pollaso! I love there carne asada on a corn tortilla!
Monday
If it is the first Monday of the month, we would go to First Monday Houston, which is a live showcase of soul music artists at Culture HTX. During the day would would go to Buffalo Bayou and the Galleria.
Tuesday
For a Tuesday night hang out, we would go to Cafe Layal in Midtown, where we can bring our own bottle, order food and a hookah all while relaxing on the covered patio.
Wednesday
Wednesday we would go to Loft 22 Salon & Grooming Studio to make sure we are ready for the weekend. We would go to the Union Kitchen for lunch.
Thursday
On Thursday we would explore the museum district, since all of the museums are free and open to the public. While in the area, we will stop by one of my favorite Houston boutiques, Pavement, and do some shopping.
Friday
It’s back to East End, to Bohemeo’s for the shrimp nachos! Friday we would also bar hop in Montrose and before the night is done, we would mostly likely grab a shrimp Po boy from BB’s!
Saturday
We would go to Taste Bar Kitchen to experience Marium Echo’s live show, great drinks, and light bites. To continue the good vibes, we would spend some time on the patio at The Flat, taking in the Houston night sky, with the infectious ambience of house music.

Who else deserves some credit and recognition?
I want to shoutout all of the elders in my community who supported me and held me accountable since I was a child. There is a certain standard of excellence that has been instilled and is now expected of me and I am thankful for that!
