We had the good fortune of connecting with Connie Anderson and we’ve shared our conversation below.

Hi Connie, what was your thought process behind starting your own business?
I’d always had a love for photography but the architectural aspect just sort of got dumped in my lap. At that time I was living on an island in Hawaii, I was brought there for a different job, a startup of an island magazine of which I was the photographer for. The magazine failed but from my photography work people began calling me to photograph high end vacation rentals. This turned into a very fun project. Before I knew it I was island hopping shooting different luxurious properties on all of the Hawaiian Islands. Fast forward to the crash of 2008. Hawaii died and with it all of my business. It forced me back to Houston but what came with me that helped open the doors for me was my portfolio of breathtaking properties. Houston has been very good to me and I’m grateful that it turned out as well as it has! I’ve been able to work with some amazing builders and interior designers to fulfill my creative dream.

Let’s talk shop? Tell us more about your career, what can you share with our community?
At the beginning of my creative life in photography I was committed to attempting to become the best I could possibly be. I watched and bought videos from others in the field that had made their mark and were willing to share their knowledge. Mike Kelly formed a FB group and had become well known in his particular style which I personally loved. He created videos of his process and I devoured them over and over trying to fine tune my abilities. My style tends to be a little more contrasty, I love the color and what I’m able to do with light. I don’t think I will ever arrive however, I’m in a constant state of learning new things.

There were a few years since I started in Houston that I had become physically ill. I would not share this with my clients and my work began to suffer for it. It took all I had to move and carry equipment, it also began to wear on my professional relationships. I did what I could but I never gave up. I pushed myself harder than I ever had just to continue my work. I have overcome those issues gratefully and am better than I’ve ever been health wise.

If you had a friend visiting you, what are some of the local spots you’d want to take them around to?
Artisan’s Restaurant, Houston’s Restaurant, Brennan’s, a walk in Herman Park, drinks at hotel ZaZa, The Strand in Galveston

Who else deserves some credit and recognition?
Rebuilding a business as I did came with many challenges, dedication to the process and not letting anything stop me, tenacity became my friend.. Its always helpful to have support and I did have that from many people, my family and longtime friends. In the beginning I was fortunate to be contracted by a few National Builders, David Weekley Homes, Beazer Homes and Trendmaker Homes. These companies initially were amazing in establishing myself here in Houston.
