We had the good fortune of connecting with Corey Scott and we’ve shared our conversation below.
Hi Corey, what do you attribute your success to?
Success to me may not be what others view as success. To me, success is getting up every day and making it happen. As a single mother of two little boys, showing them that if they can dream it, and are willing to work hard for it, anything is possible. Success to me is hearing my oldest say to me, “Mom, I want to grow up and have my own business like you do”. Having a quality brand that I believe in, a well as quality makeup artists and hair stylists that also believe in the company and brand are a key factor in many businesses. I have been blessed with employees who are more like family and love what they do. When you hire people who are happy in their work and love what they do and or believe in what they are selling, you have the perfect ingredients for success.
Can you open up a bit about your work and career? We’re big fans and we’d love for our community to learn more about your work.
I can not say that I have ever really worked outside the Cosmetic Industry. I have always had one foot in the door of Cosmetics. From Darque Tan, to Managing at Smashbox, to managing at Ulta, Makeup has always been my passion. I have worked for and managed over 30+ Brands (during my Career in the retail side of Cosmetics). Advanced experience in Team Development, Product Knowledge Training, Group Training, and People Management. Proven track record with achieving sales goals and surpassing LY. Event planning and executing successful events as well as developing overall business growth is became expertise. I would have to say that the hardest part about starting Makeup2go by CS, was telling myself that it was possible. Once that part was done I just kind of went for it. Having a great support system also helped. We have the most fabulous clients who are essential to our business. With out them and their recommending us to friends and family we would not be where we are today. Today, I can say that my most proudest achievement so far has been watching the company grow. Watching it go from an on-location company, to a storefront and having/creating its very own Cosmetic Brand. A camera ready, mineral based, oil free brand that I am proud of and wear myself. I am so excited to see where we are at next year and where we continue to go from there!
If someone came to visit for a week where are local spots you would take them?
Anyone who knows me knows I love to brunch… One of my favorite places to do so is at Another Broken Egg on I45 in Shenandoah, TX. So anyone who came in town to visit would be brunching with me a lot. Then I would want to venture to Top Golf not far from there in Spring, Texas. This is where you can enjoy the Texas heat (under a fan) and get a little competitive. If you are me, you can laugh at yourself when you give the club a full force swing and completely miss hitting the ball. Well, I would most definitely take them to eat CRAWFISH (if it was in season). One of my favorite places to eat it at is Draft on 1488 in Magnolia TX OR Pacific Yard House in downtown Conroe, TX. Pacific Yard House often has live music so it is a fun place to go in the evening. Another good one for Crawfish is Woodson’s Local Tap & Kitchen off of 1488. An absolute must would be Mel’s Country Cafe. From their Chicken Fried Steak to their Fried Catfish, you really can not go wrong with anything you order from there. The food is outstanding and their staff treats you like family! If there was a festival in town we would absolutely attend one of them. My favorite in the area is the Montgomery County Fair, However, most of the festivals in Montgomery County are fabulous. Looking back at this question, and reading what I have written so far, It would seem like I enjoy eating out a lot. LOL. To add to this, Mexican food would def be on the docket and I would take them to one of my local favorites (Hacienda Real) because they have the best Carne Guisada. These are just a few of my favorite things to do in the area.
The Shoutout series is all about recognizing that our success and where we are in life is at least somewhat thanks to the efforts, support, mentorship, love and encouragement of others. So is there someone that you want to dedicate your shoutout to?
Makeup2go by CS has come a long way since we very first started out in 2013 as an on-location Makeup and Hair Company. When we first started out, like some, I can imagine, we were definitely winging it. My 13+ year background in the Cosmetic Industry lead me to make the bold and (if I am being completely honest) scary decision to start my own company. This has lead today to me creating my cosmetic Skincare and Makeup Brand 2GO COSMETICS as well as opening up a Storefront called Makeup2go by CS. There were many times along the way that I had the thought, “Corey this is impossible”. I think this is where some people turn back and can give up. During those times, the main thing that kept me going was church and my faith in God, and one of my favorite books (The Secret). If you have not given this little gem a read…… You must. The power of positive thinking is HUGE. If it not for my amazing team (Abigail DeBeck, Carrie Wallace, Samantha Narvaez aka Sammy, and when I can contract her Diana Dodson), I would not be where I am today. These ladies have been through it all and I am grateful to call them co-workers as well as friends.
