We had the good fortune of connecting with Courtney Campbell and we’ve shared our conversation below.
Hi Courtney, can you walk us through the thought-process of starting your business?
I realized that health in the Black community is something that is taken lightly at times. I dealt with my own health issues and once I realized that I can take my own health into my hands by changing what I put in my body, I decided that I wanted to share my vegan journey with others by leaving reviews for vegan restaurants and creating other content around the vegan lifestyle; showing my community that being vegan doesn’t have to be “boring” and there are plenty of benefits!
What should our readers know about your business?
I am a vegan food blogger and I take pride in the growth I have seen since starting this journey in March 2020. I still have many goals and aspirations in this type of work, mostly getting to the point where I am paid to go to restaurants, try their menu items and get paid for it 🙂 Until then, my reviews on my instagram page are FREE.
If you had a friend visiting you, what are some of the local spots you’d want to take them around to?
In Houston, there are so many hidden gems and I know quite a few of them! If you are into nature like myself, It’s a must to visit the McGovern Centennial Gardens (full of flowers) that is near the Houston Zoo. If you’re looking to get a good walk in with lots of nature around, Buffalo Bayou is full of trails! Places to eat…yummmmm that’s my expertise! Of course, I have all the vegan spots that are a must to visit when in Houston: Foodtrucks: Houston Sauce Co, Houston Sauce Pit, Herbanfrequency, Lindiana’s Southern Vegan Kitchen Restaurants: Korny Vibes, Soul Food Vegan, Veegos There’s always something cool to get into 🙂
Shoutout is all about shouting out others who you feel deserve additional recognition and exposure. Who would you like to shoutout?
I definitely want to share some of this spotlight with my dear Aunt Pearl and my beautiful cousin Keri. They both passed unexpectedly in 2019 and that was around the time that I was moved to reexamine what I was putting in me body. Also, shoutout to all my friends and family that have encouraged me!
