We had the good fortune of connecting with Crystal Cook and we’ve shared our conversation below.
Hi Crystal, can you walk us through the thought-process of starting your business?
I’ve always wanted to have my own business and provide generational wealth for my daughter and her future children. I was an Early Childcare Teacher, and when the pandemic hit they sent us home. I had to figure out what was next.
Let’s talk shop? Tell us more about your career, what can you share with our community?
I am the proud owner of Edyn & Skylondyn Co. L.L.C. We handcrafted natural soy candles and more. The name is for my son who is my heaven baby. His name is Edyn and for my daughter (my rainbow baby) is Skylar Londyn. We have had several ups and downs to get to where we are today. Every trial is a new opportunity to learn how to be better. We are a small growing business with awesome products. I love to create things and watch people enjoy them. There are many candle companies, but Edyn Skylondyn is one of a kind. You’re not just getting a candle….you’re getting an experience. We want our candles to bring up great memories of eating your favorite cereal on a Saturday morning and watching cartoons. Or you can create new memories with any of the variety of fragrances we offer. I’ve learned to never give up and stay positive. I want the world to know we are so much more than just a candle company. We make our products with love and care, and you can smell that in our products. We want Edyn Skylondyn to be a household name, that puts a smile on your face whenever you say it.
If you had a friend visiting you, what are some of the local spots you’d want to take them around to?
There are so many great places to go and so much todo. We would definitely have to visit some of the farmers markets and pop up shops. You can always find unique items and great people at the markerts. Its always something cool going on at Discovery Green park. We could go to the the beach or to Dave and Busters. We could go check out the Twisted Grilled Cheese, Turkey Leg Hut, The Breakfast Klub, and Olive +Twist. We could get drinks from Daiquiri Shack.
Who else deserves some credit and recognition?
Oh yes I would love to shoutout my amazing crew. My Husband (Brandon Cook) for all of his love and support throughout all of the many transitions in our lives. My Mom (Dorothy McCloud) and my sisters (Angel Devine, Charity McCloud) for all of their love and support through it all. My Daughter (Skylar Cook) for being the reason for it all. My Dad (John Scott) for all of the love and support. My Friends ( Tamaria Holmes, Jessica Gregory, Whitney French, Lakeita Wyatt) for their love, support, and encouragement. To all the Farmer Markets and Pop up shops that gave us the opportunity to sale our products. These are the people that make up my small yet mighty army of support. I could not do any of this without them.
